It's why I head canon that the whole money thing to be Starfleet specific. Starfleet personnel get room and board as part of being part of starfleet. It doesn't make much sense to me otherwise.

Quite a bit. I'm just about ready to start house shopping, hoping to move before summer is out. I'm looking for a single story, a bit more storage space, and a good sized backyard. I'm going to put a hammock back there.

They don't wear out really. Most what happens is a new barrel, which takes a ridiculous amount of rounds, and on most guns is easily replaceable.
Hell, I have an old 1911 from my grandfather's father, has had a lot of rounds through it, and I still take it to the range. Works just fine.
