Oh man, how do I account for anti-seize lube?

[–] Kurt@lemmy.one 2 points 2 years ago (3 children)

Thank you, I hadn't considered that style. All the YouTube videos use the mechanical click type, but you've got me thinking that the simpler beam style might be better for my situation.

What's a good torque wrench to get?

I want to replace the spark plugs in my car and I'm apparently going to have to torque them to 30Nm. #diy #tools

Venus flytraps are great plants to keep, but they're not effective for pest control, especially against tiny gnats. The gnats you have are probably fungus gnats and your houseplants' soil is infested with their larvae. To get them under control you have to innoculate the soil with nematodes that eat the larvae. The particular brand I got on Amazon aren't available anymore, but the species was s. feltiae and they worked really well. There might be other good or better nematodes, but that's how you get rid of the gnats.

Ugh I've never encountered a black widow, but I just felt that sentence.

[–] Kurt@lemmy.one 1 points 2 years ago

I think recluses and widows do sometimes live around here in NJ, but I haven't seen any yet. Regardless, I'm ready for them.

The only spiders I kill are the yellow sac spiders because they will bite you in your sleep and cause a nasty infection. It happened to me once.

[OC] A little jumping spider.

I remember when I was trying to take this photo the spider jumped on the lens and I might have screamed.

Afaik, whenever an Activitypub instance has defederated from another it has always had to do with some combination of bad user behavior, poor moderation, and/or spam. Are the various instance admins who have decided to preemptively block threads.net simply convinced that these traits will be inevitable with it? Is it more of a symbolic move, because we all hate Meta? Or is the idea to just maintain a barrier (albeit a porous one) between us and the part of the Internet inhabited by our chuddy relatives?

(For my part, I'm working on setting up my own Lemmy and/or Pixelfed instance(s) and I do not currently intend to defederate.)

I have the Withings and it works well as a digital scale. However, I think it's body composition measurements/calculations are bogus. It thinks I have a 3.8% bone mass, which would be 6.7 lbs. That's right it thinks I'm some kind of bird cryptid.

Probably to broadcast announcements.

Juneteenth is a federal holiday, but private employers don't have to observe it. Mine sure doesn't. I have never heard of any employer observing Mother's or Father's day with a paid holiday.

If we really cared about mothers and fathers then their respective Days would be paid holidays; three-day weekends. Enough with this commemorative Sunday bs.

Yes, I believe that is still the case. I found guides to install Docker on a Yunohost/Debian server and another guide to install Lemmy on Docker, so we'll see if I can figure it out.

My little self-hosting win this weekend was to finally sort out the typical email issues. Yunohost makes it easy to use an SMTP relay.

I am a Yunohost enjoyer. I'm just running AdGuard on it for now, but I'm planning on setting up a personal Lemmy instance as well.

What's the best way to run Lemmy on Yunohost? The Yunohost application is out of date (16.3), and I read somewhere that the image handling part of it is disabled. I also saw somewhere that it's possible to install it with the help of Docker, but I'm pretty unfamiliar with that. I'm already using Yunohost successfully for other reasons, so I figured I would just put a personal Lemmy instance on there. Any advice?

I wonder if I could use the old Yunohost application and then update it manually as well as install pict-rs.

Is there a way to shop around for a Lemmy instance based on how many instances are blocking it and how many instances it's blocking? For example, I noticed that the lemmygrad.ml instance is relatively popular, but it seems like a lot of other instances block it. It also blocks a bunch of other instances. So, if there are any communities on there that might be relevant to me then I would be missing out. I guess I could just create an account on a walled instance, but I would prefer not to keep creating accounts. I'd like to just find one instance that maximizes my access. Is the answer to just run my own instance?
