Apparently this taboo got started as thing by the Catholic Church during the medieval ages as some kind of property inheritance thing. I can't remember the details. I remember watching a whole video that argued this anti-cousin marriage thing is where the West got it hyper individualism from, compared to the rest of the world, but I can't find it now.

Most of them hunt for all three. It would be rare to see someone not eat the animal or keep the hide. A deer has a lot of meat on it.

The thing is, kids dying is a cultural and social problem, not a gun problem. Mass shootings didn't start until the early 90s and they didn't really become "popular" until after Columbine. Mass shootings have been accessible and practical for far longer than that.

I want to stop then as much as the next person, but the source of the problem is the isolation and perceived injustice of a particular demographic within whom mass shootings are a popular form of lashing out. E.G. "They've made me feel small and impotent for too long! I'll show them how much of a man I really am!" Taking away the guns, even if it were practical, would just cause a shift in tactics (see: Toronto van attack).

We need to make these people feel valued and supported. We need to fix so many different aspects of our social services and economic landscape. The problems they're facing are the same problems a lot of other people are facing, so fixing them would lead to a better life for a huge pile of people.

You would except 10% of the winners to be from California, all else being equal.

Nah there's statistics on it. A huge fraction end up broke. I'm too lazy to dig them up, but you can find numbers on it. In any case, it's not a actually limited to people who but lotto tickets. Humans are generally bad at handling massive windfalls.

Taking the lump sum, which is roughly half the grand prize, is practically always the better deal. Almost everyone takes the lump sum. If you want the full amount you get it in yearly installments over 40 years. Anyway, so you pay income taxes on the lump sum.

They got one of their own committed to a mental hospital because he was pushing back on their bullshit. They literally have a "friends and family" card you can show an officer and get out of a ticket. These are the people who claimed they have the authority to just randomly search people on the street for no reason.

Do we though? Can't we ramp up local storage and production with solar and batteries on and in buildings?

They were charged with involuntary manslaughter. I would assume similar charges would be brought if similar actions happened between roommates.

Mass shooter: voices in my head are telling me to kill people.

Roommate: I'm gonna just ignore that. Hey, you wanna learn how to shoot? Let's buy you a gun!

We do need to fix the current problem with a lack of corporate accountability.

Counter anecdote: the Tesla owner I know says it's the nicest car they've ever been in.

I'd have to learn about QA/QC industry standards for an auto maker of similar size and then look at actual date about Tesla if I wanted to say something meaningful.

I can tell you right now whatever alternative solution they have, no one will accept.
