I bet somebody's done it. There are people in the Linux world who dedicate themselves to getting it to run on anything - a TV, a toaster...

But it would probably be a lot easier to just run Linux on a Raspberry Pi or something and use the TV as a monitor.

Yes, having an owner is what the word itself hinges on. The imagery and emotion that go with it aren't a handy colorful Post-It to stick on something else.

Grandpa knew things. Apparently so did grandma.

Good things about Hitler:

  1. He killed Hitler.

On reddit I was once literally told to go fuck myself for saying it was a nice day. There are psychotic people everywhere, and I really do agree the solution is just to block them. When someone's comment to me consists of "You're an idiot" or some other insult, I generally block them. And no, that's not how I comment.

Someone will see ANYTHING as an attack on the internet. The default interpretation is, "How can this comment be an offense against me and everything I believe in?"

Name-calling - a time-honored way to win any argument. Respect!

Slaves have owners, but call it flapjacks or pudding or whatever makes you feel like a keyboard justice warrior.

Random radio sources, but a small part of the signal is CMB. I wasn't sure what you even meant by thermal noise but I believe it's a phenomenon of flatscreens. I found something that said it was "similar to snow on analog TVs" - so apparently there's a difference.

Funnily, Google AI says, "In the 1940s, people could detect the CMB at home by tuning their TVs to channel 03 and measuring the remaining static after removing other sources. This allowed them to prove the Big Bang before scientists did." So they had that going for 'em, which is nice.

Not sure how I got to lemmy.one but when it said I had to login to comment on something, my userid/pwd that works here didn't work and the registration link said user registration is closed. Aren't lemmy logins supposed to work across the whole federation? Or are there multiple federations and lemmy.one is entirely different? Maybe I misunderstand the whole scheme of lemmy.

edit: Okay, after a little experimentation I think I get it. On the domain lemmy.world, when logged in, if I look at a thread I see the comment box, but if I go to lemmy.one and find the same thread it says I must login to comment. With the explanations everybody gave here, this makes sense now. So thank you very much, I appreciate the help!
