I floated the idea to someone that we should make police unions responsible for any legal payouts when a cop is found at fault and there is a civil payout. The police won't hold themselves accountable and they don't even have to pay the fines. The tax payers do. Making the police unions pay would give them incentive to actually cut ties with bad cops.
I was told that was a terrible idea and the fastest way to bankrupt the police. I didn't see the problem.
It's not like anyone was held accountable. Why wouldn't they bide their time and try again later?

I didn't have high hopes for this show going in but I was extremely pleased. The jokes were clever and the story telling was clean.
Every military movie, or movie that has military assets in the movie gets them for cheap (if not free}. The movie just has be get cleared as okay from the military. Don't want to send the wrong message. It makes pro-military movies easier to make than something a bit more critical.
As a Marine (got out many years ago), most of us don't give a shit. Some did while they were active duty, but it was only when other people brought it up to get a reaction from the Marine. There are still some loud Marines that would say something just to be loud. We come in different flavors of annoying.
While I was recruiting, I was called a soldier by a few teachers and parents and it doesn't matter. What matters (to me) is the intent, most people are making an honest mistake. Some are trying to get a reaction out of you, I might respond if it was a bit friendly, but I mostly ignore it.
Being called a Marine instead of a soldier, is part of the brain washing. It helps point to something and say "That's why we are better. Marine is a proper name and should be capitalized. Also don't put your hands in your pockets. That for the nasty Army to do and not the Marines. We get held to a higher standard."
Why wouldn't they trust Fox News over their own eyes? Fox News is the most trusted name in news. At least that's what the viewers get told when they come back from commercial breaks. It's not like Fox would lie to them. They are the most trusted name in news after all.....

As someone that says 'no war but class war' let me clarify.....yes there are clearly other divides. They are distracting us to keep us divided. Many times the bigot and non-bigot ven diagrams are 2 circle on top of each other, but it's still based in class warfare.
Rich white went and got poor black slaves because it was cheaper than paying the local poor for work. Then the local poor hate the newly migrated people of color. It was slaves, but moved to employing underage kids for foreign countries. Either way it is still a class divide.
The rich use the media to keep us (working class) mad at each other and blame each other for taking our jobs. The truth is the owner class stole our wealth and sold it back to us for money. We were too distracted with lies about honest work to realize the truth in time. Some of this stuff happens in cycle and they wouldn't notice for themselves. They get stuck buying way too much because it's too easy and they don't realize until they own more stuff than they need.
I know not everyone on 'my side' will agree with me and there are blind spots for me. I'm American, globally my quality of life is awesome and it's on the backs of child slaves that I'm too disconnected with to feel guilty about. If you are an American and feel a certain way about your cell phone and chocolate, just know it's not magic. A bad system that we can make better is currently in place. We take for granted because bad people employing child labor because it is cheap.

You're getting down voted, but I agree with you. I think we are too close in time to get an unbiased process now at wiki. Most things take time to remove emotions and be able to look back with a critical eye.
I couldn't ask certain questions about the 9/11 attacks because it seemed I was being unpatriotic. That I might be friendly with the terrorists. It's like no, I just think the middle eastern man (from Iraq) working at the Eagle Mart didn't have anything to do with Saudi Funded terrorism.
