Don't kill me, but I would rather ask such question to "white" US citizen as indigenous people looks different then then,than asking "black" person as we all know history (I suppose).

For such things I was using wifi calling feature of mobile phone and I think company got no clue which way your text goes. You can check if there are other confirmation methods than sms like mail, app or google auth. I changed authorization in my bank to their mobile app, which is IMO safer.
Look at this from different perspective, Who cares what they say, you are living Your life, while they are too narrow minded to understand that they are wasting their time... You will not save the world...
