Group photo f/4 at minimum, f/8 is also good if you have flash or broad sunlight. AD400 is plenty appropriate for groups. Most people are doing it with 200s. Don't use HSS.

For flash group outdoor:
-put sun behind them
-make sure flash is reaching everyone (move the stand back/feather softbox)
-Expose for ambient, then expose for subjects.
1.start at 1/200 f/4 100, white balance set to daylight
2.with flash trigger OFF take picture, if its too bright, raise f/stop, if too dark raise iso
3.reduce your shutter speed so that your background is properly exposed
4.turn on flash trigger, take picture
5.raise or lower flash power until group is properly exposed

Remembering this sequence will allow you to troubleshoot basically any situation indoors or outdoors with flash.
