I spend the last couple weeks looking Into modded boxes and anti ad options and I came to the conclusion that a mini pc with wireless keyboard and mouse is the way to go. No special nonsense required. It's super easy to just find whatever I wanna watch online for free anyways and I don't need any special program or knowledge.
Now my next issue is between finding a dumb TV or a solid affordable projector. I mostly use the TV for movie nights anyways, I game on my pc and watch most stuff on my pc too.
I wouldn't be surprised if the reason behind no open source is some stupid legislation for 'reasons'.
Never heard of them please elaborate a bit, I'm always open to learning new and better stuff.

Just in case anyone needs to hear this, bbb isn't a government department. They are quite literally yelp before yelp and you can straight up pay to get bad reviews taken down from both. It would be better to put them on blast on social media since that sometimes gets the companies attention to try and fix PR.
It's not only you. A couple years ago I sold and set up brand new display tvs. They were atrocious with how much they lagged out of the box. I stay away from roku for that reason, their TCL roku tvs are the worst for lag, or they were back then at least.
I also canceled be cause of their bullshit but I don't agree with your context statement. People have different likes, I personally find they have put up way more content I actually like in the past couple years, so I just pirate it now.
People underestimate how prevalent camera doorbells are now thanks to ring. At my girlfriends place about 75 percent of her neighbors on the block have em. Just installed a eufy for my mom a little while ago and she's super untech savvy. Her apt building also has about 60 percent door cams.
There's an app called to good to go. Check it out I use it often.
I've thought about this a lot too and I don't even have a job where I need to worry about it. The best way is really to just stay in the public eye and be as transparent as legally possible. I considered just fucking live streaming most of my life on twitch if I needed too. Car cam, house cam, go pro on my person, etc.
