First of all. Whoever doesn't like a gift is awkward. And I am sure if you gifted him a set of shoelaces he would still love them.

Secondly if he is a real enthusiast he will like a good looking watch no matter the cost. I think it comes down to finding the right piece for him. Something different from what he owns but within the bounds of his style.

Btw the Bulova model has already been to the moon on the Apollo 15 mission

What is your budget? Is there a watch out there (without looking at the price) that you really like the look of?

I think it looks pretty good. It is on the bigger side but for me the lugs seem to form well around your wrist.

I like it a lot. It is solid. For my taste what is missing is one funkier piece.

The G-Shock is nice but it is a G-shock. It is expected to look a little out there. But like one "crazy" dial or something with a unique shape. Maybe even a bronze watch.

Maybe:

Oris Big Crown

Baltic MR01/Bicompax

Yema Rallygraf Alpine

Casio Watch EFR-S108D is a banger for the money but a quartz watch. But people actually come forward and ask me about it.

Maybe take a look into Boldr. they might have some models that would fit in there nicely :)
