I would have nothing but issues if I ran the docker app on unraid and used the sqlexpress built in. I switched over to CasaOS and use Mariasql and the nextcloud container on it and it has been solid.

So I have been using PopOS/Mint for a couple of years now and I regularly listen to Linux Unplugged and have been getting some FOMO when all they talk about how great NixOS is. So I guess my default starting point is going to be a Vm through VMware. My question is: Is this a good place to start? Should I just use a basic desktop on bare metal to get it running.

When I liked have a AD domain and DHCP running on it and the whole Media server part as well. I am working to seperate the two and have running my lab off of old Dell desktops from the servers I was using since my power bill went up. Also anything like my game server, Media Server, and Casa OS server and AD server I have moved to micro PC's when I feel like blowing stuff up it wont affect the entire house.

I have been using for about 4 months or so. I like it over unraid which I was using since I dont have to use a flash drive to boot off of. I do miss the app store that unraid has but I know I can just a the docker template but I am lazy
