I don't think Democrats hammered this point hard enough. There must be relentless attacks against every bad thing Republicans have done. In addition Democrats must aggressively campaign for their vision with strong simple words.

Democrats: Please remember this moment and when it comes time to the elections constantly repeat this on loop as much as possible. We must never forget this.

It seems having a company run by someone who endorses Nazis and takes drugs won't result in good cars. Everyone must boycott the dangerous Tesla cars.

Protest quitting would require a large amount of people to do it at the same time. If only a few people quit it's a net loss because then the percentage of bad people is higher.

I hate how journalists keep repeating "presidential immunity" without explaining that presidential immunity doesn't apply when not in office. The hush money stuff happened before he was president.

There is hope. If you read the polls section of the article you will notice that the ruling was very unpopular among people of both parties (among common people, of course I feel that Republicans in office don't agree with their constituents). I think now is the time for a strong campaign fiance reform push. If we can't get it done at the federal level we shall try the state level.

I'm very surprised but this does seem possible: https://www.facebook.com/help/messenger-app/1526848634305688/

However if possible I think it would be good to try convincing your friends to switch to a more secure chat app such as Signal.

analysts expect minimal financial impact on Meta

Let's make the analysts wrong and boycott Meta products. Quit Facebook, Instagram and Threads.

There's a common saying; If 9 people sit down at a table with 1 Nazi without protest, there are 10 Nazis at the table. The people at Meta are like the 9 people, they pretend to act ignorant but they know exactly what they are doing. They care more about profits than they care about the country so we must make it so they loose big from this decision.

Don't put the cart before the horse. The Wikipedia article says that "The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) estimates $15 billion in available capital will be generated by bonding revenues from the tolls, which will be available to fund repairs and improvements to the subway, bus, and commuter rail systems."

According to Wikipedia "Low-income residents receive a 50 percent discount on daytime tolls after their first ten trips into the congestion zone in a calendar month". So to some extent the system does take your concern into account.

Everything under Trump seems to trace back to Putin. I think they are doing this to give false legitimacy to Putin's invasion into Ukraine. They will say "See? America is doing it so we can too".

[–] WeUnite@lemm.ee 3 points 6 months ago

I would love too. I really don't think America should invade any country. One thing everyone can do no matter what country they live in you can boycott Tesla and Twitter. Musk is going to be a major funder of the GOP so ending his propaganda megaphone and wealth could change the course of events.

When you use Twitter/X what you see is controlled by Elon Musk. Elon has already interfered in our politics by using X to boost Republicans and himself. There is no reason to believe he is going to stop at doing this in the US. Elon is already moving on to trying to influence politics in other countries as made evident by wanting to donate to £78,000,000 to Nigel Farage.

Basically no matter what country you live, if you use Twitter/X you are not safe from Elon Musk. He has your data and he can use it to send you micro targeted messages just as he's done to help Trump win.

That is why I'm calling on everyone to work towards getting people who use Twitter/X to move to different platforms. Bluesky is a great drop in replacement for Twitter. Also there's Mastodon which is great and of course I would love to see your friends from Twitter come here to Lemmy!

It doesn't take a lot of your time. The most simple and effective thing to do is create a post saying you'll no longer use Twitter and you are now on Bluesky or whatever replacement app you choose. You can also consider deleting your account. I've read conflicting reports on if your username could be used by someone else if you delete your account so take note of that if you decide to delete your account.

In addition you can tell your friends and family why it's important to stop using Twitter/X. Also it would be great if you can convince them to spread the message farther! Use your own words to describe why it's important to you such as maybe your mental health got better after you stopped using it or you feel you don't want Elon Musk interfering with your country's politics.

Another thing is if you see an advertisement on Twitter/X try contacting the company and demand they stop advertising on Twitter/X. We should not fund disinformation.

If you work at Twitter/X maybe you can consider quitting your job and organizing a mass resignation.

Let's work together and defeat X and Elon Musk's extreme agenda and make the world a better place.

I'm very curious to hear your thoughts on this topic. What can we do to fix this? If you've already tried something what were your results? What worked and what do you think could be done better?

My thoughts on this are that we keep electing politicians who support billionaires and elite instead of ordinary people like you and me. In addition people are loosing a sense of community and are isolated at home. I think these two things can be fixed simultaneously by getting out and talking about class and corrupt politicians in person and having mutual support networks.

These corrupt politicians typically get elected by exploiting people's fears and biases. For example a corrupt politician might blame your problems on immigrants or minorities. Meanwhile people won't notice that they are being robbed by the billionaires.

I read interviews of people who used to be part of hate groups. The consistent theme I noticed is that they had past traumas and issues which draw them towards hateful ideologies. https://edition.cnn.com/2020/11/12/opinions/former-white-supremacist-how-to-tackle-hate-buckley/index.html

When talking to people it's important to listen and respect them first before you say your points. This article has a good technique for talking with people: https://www.vice.com/en/article/how-to-change-a-voters-mind-is-deep-canvassing/ I've been using myself and I can vouch for it.

I found this technique called deep canvassing to be fascinating. I think the headline might be a little rigid but the method is scientifically proven.

Here is something I want to warn everyone about. You might be aware how Russian propaganda targets Trump supporters. What you might not yet be aware of is that there is propaganda targeted at us too. The article I linked to does a good job of explaining this with the following quote:

Propaganda is also strategically useful to incapacitate opposition, within and outside the country. A key insight here is that collective actions—such as people protesting against the regime within the country, or external countries deciding on sanctions—require successful coordination.

The goal of groups such as the Russian government and the Republican party is to divide us so we cannot effectively stop them.

Always remember this:

  • Voting matters.
  • You can make a difference.
  • We share common goals which are more important than our disagreements

I made this post after having discussions with people who are perhaps acting in bad faith on multiple social media platforms who tell me things like it won't matter no matter what you do, that both sides are the same or that you can't make a difference. That's why I put "Apathy Shills" in part of the title. So remember vote and volunteer. It will make a difference despite what anyone tells you. Never let anyone bring you down.

I couldn't fit this important detail in the title. It was a proposed joint US and Russia project. I already tried to reword the title to fit more information but I couldn't fit it with the character limit.

IP3 International (International Peace, Power and Prosperity)[1] is a nuclear technology company formed in June 2016. One project involved a plan to transfer nuclear technology from the United States to Saudi Arabia.

During the 2016 U.S. presidential campaign of Donald Trump, and subsequently, Trump aides Michael Flynn and Jared Kushner were engaged in promoting IP3 International's plan to transfer nuclear technology from the US to Saudi Arabia, for use in a proposed joint US-Russian project, in possible violation of the Atomic Energy Act.[2][3][4][5][6] In January 2017, Derek Harvey, a retired Army intelligence officer, former staffer for David Petraeus, and then-staffer of the National Security Council under Michael Flynn, advocated for the IP3 nuclear sales plan. Harvey continued to speak with Michael Flynn "every night" even after Flynn resigned.[7]

In February 2019, United States House Committee on Oversight and Reform chairman Elijah E. Cummings released a report on the matter, based in part upon testimony from whistleblowers within White House.[6][8][9][10][11][7][12][13] The House Oversight Committee released a second interim staff report and supporting documents in July 2019, highlighting the "gold standard" of nuclear proliferation. It also reported lobbying by Flynn and Barrack and briefings to White House members including President Trump, Jared Kushner, Gary Cohn, Mike Pompeo, and Rick Perry.[14] [15] [16][17]

Here's an interesting article about the same musician: https://english.elpais.com/culture/2023-07-21/why-woody-guthries-guitar-was-a-fascist-killer.html

Relevant paragraph:

Woody Guthrie’s guitar didn’t kill fascists because it fired bullets. It killed by neutralizing the fascists. Music, like culture, has the power to defeat right-wing extremists and their antidemocratic ideas rooted in xenophobia, racism, homophobia and sexism. Guthrie fought using ideas, language, music and the shared desire to build a better future together.
