Idk if that's out of control or not anymore, what's a dollar worth? But I've avoided goodwill for Habitat for a while because there were various stories over the years about shady things. Now, they're big and basically all franchises so some of this was always gonna happen; lawsuits w/ racist/sexist/otherwise discriminatory managers will eventually happen once a company gets large enough, and franchises have a lot of independent control which leads to a lot of variance, good and bad, at different locations.

But they're also pretty shit at the corporate level: https://www.cracked.com/article_33357_15-impressively-evil-things-goodwill-has-done.html

So overall, on the astronomically low bar of regular evil corporate behavior, they're middling, but you should probably donate/shop elsewhere if you want to do the most good.

Milquetoast but your point stands.

This is a very reasoned argument, I don't understand the downvotes. Nothing said here is inflammatory or incorrect, it's a pretty valid take on how Lemmy reacts to things they don't want to be true, including legitimate criticisms of Harris. A lot of people seem to think anyone saying "but wait" means they're for Trump, even if that's not the case. I mean I get it, he was a disaster and it's crazy the collective amnesia that half this country seems to have about it, Harris will assuredly be better than him, including with Gaza. It still doesn't mean we should just unilaterally ban asking the Dems to do more, even if there are some that attempt to argue such things in bad faith.

I will say "vote hard enough" could work if we actually did it, but only way may be to have auto registration at 18. But I agree, Dems need to stop courting the ever decreasing "undecideds" and actually represent something left of center-right.

Voting is still valid though, a lot of us on the left seem to disdain voting as useless and only want to go with rhetoric, but it's literally how MLKJ got the most done that was enforceable. Civil disobedience to get attention, million man marches to register the vote and getting people to the polls no matter what was in the way. If we ever actually did that maybe we could get some more lefty candidates on bigger stages.

I think there are plenty of instances that aren't, and those don't include the hyper tanky/toxic ones. The big instances have tended to skew neoliberal though.

The problem with this argument is it only works for people who show up to vote, and if the Dems don't get people, particularly young people, inspired enough to do so, then they'll lose. Fear only works as a motivator for so long, at some point, you need to provide a carrot and not just the stick.

Can confirm Fall Guy was very solid, didn't think it was gonna be anything memorable but we ended up really liking it.

Your favorite of all of them? Really? I'm honestly curious because I found it pretty terrible, in the vein of crystal skull more than the OGs. In my view it was all over the place, didn't tell a cohesive story, and dragged on for at least 45 minutes longer than it should've. I'm having trouble even recalling what the movie was even about and it's only been a couple months.

I'll keep an eye on this. I use discord exclusively for gaming purposes, and voice chat is pretty important for that bc I'm still on console mostly for the next year or so (building a pc finally, thanks to a new job). So if they can get that going, I could convince several people to switch once I'm also on PC. Till then discord for my PS5 is about the best I can hope for.

You mean besides being an uber controlling cult that embezzles millions if not billions of dollars?

Also Book of Mormon is excellent, highly encourage you to go see it! There's not a bad seat in the house for Broadway.

This is a super weird hill to die on imo. Obviously, Heavenly is at fault here, but choosing to rely solely on others by not bringing your cell is also a decision that she made that worked out poorly.

Sure, you can break your phone falling, but I'd much rather risk a broken phone than being stuck somewhere without it, or getting lost off piste or something and only having my voice to call for help.

You claim "LOTS" of people don't bring theirs, but I'd guess that's still a tiny minority of people on the mountain overall. I tend to get over 20 days a year and go with a pretty sizeable crew, literally no one leaves their phone in the car because then you can't find anyone if you get separated, you can't listen to music, you can't take sweet pics/vids, you can't call ski patrol if you or someone with you gets hurt (obviously you can still go find them but calling is faster if you have service).
