This sounds horrible to me, getting out there, interacting with strangers, but it is the truth. You can't just "make friends", or rather you can, but to "make" anything, a cake, a house, a friend, it takes time and effort.
I don't see how that would make a difference from pre-AI? It's just bad actors doing their best to upset the world. They will make use of all and every tool they can to help them reach their goals, no matter the consequences. That has been true since the dawn of humanity and will be true until it's fall next week.
I've been using Jetbrains products for free in college and I can say that it is the best advertisement. I bought it the day after my student license expired.
Sure, credit where credit is due, but profits and reached audience are also very valid benchmarks eventhough they are evil capitalist terms. History is full of inventions that didn't take off until some big corporation took interest in it.
