Well fuck here we go again. I can't stand YouTube Music, and Spotify is not where I want to go for Podcasts.

Comeon Google stop pulling this kind of crap.

They're limited as hell and buggy. The thing that most bothers me is the character limit and then your device sends out multiple SMSs, other devices may not understand that and instead of receiving one message you receive multiple broken ones.

Accents, anything not in the English alphabet: á ä ā ą é ê and so on, good luck with those.

Attaching media is a nightmare, basically the entire MMS protocol is broken.

You're relying on your carrier and your recipients carriers.

International messaging is also completely broken for the reason above. You can forget any media in that case too.

Geez I don't know if I should continue. Did you know SMS was not a feature planned in phones originally but rather it takes advantage of a bug that was never fixed?

In Brazil where I'm originally from people stopped using SMS altogether as soon as the first iPhone got in the market. Android followed shortly after. Viber was the popular choice back then, now WhatsApp is the standard.

It's definitely an unusual setup but not that much unusual.

Not sure if it helps but I also had trouble with my Dell XPS and I tried a bunch of distros and their variants, and the only one that worked flawlessly out of the box was Fedora. And not the KDE version, GNOME was better. Give it a try, it's really a great distro all by itself too.

There's a new tracking network? Is it similar to Apple's airtag stuff?

Right I'm following the Pixel Art community and I saw your 2nd link before. Nice 🙂 Anyway good luck with your project, or rather, have fun with your project 😉

That sounds amazing, may we know a little more about your project if you're ready to share something about it?

That's a fascinating topic, and I wonder how AppImages sit in this argument.

Unfortunately those are not platforms meant for archiving, it's in their own TOS they can take down any content or entire accounts at their own will and for undisclosed reasons. Also those platforms are subject to shitty practices like report abusing, yet another reason to put your content in danger.

Also unfortunately they are very attractive because of the influence a person can build with large network of followers in those platforms and how they can leverage that.

I don't see a plausible solution or alternative. Instagram, Facebook, are the platform of the masses and where your content has the highest exposure. People today aren't browsing "the web" like we used to back then. Instagram/Facebook are the internet.

I know it sounds awful but on the other hand Linus explains why it's like that in this video https://youtu.be/7KuLMe6KSVQ?si=DAdNH3JlZ4HShIYZ

Not trying to justify it, just it's good to know why.
