Aside from becoming federated? Nothing, its a lost battle for them, they can make the api free, they can undo all their fuckups, but theres no guarantee something like this will happen again in the future.

In comparison, worst case scenario for lemmy/kbin right now is i switch my instance in the instance that the owner makes poor decisions, as opposed to abandoning the platform entirely.

Unfortunately there's no account migration system on lemmy/kbin, I just made a new account under kbin

+1, kbin is great. I switched from my instance after hearing about it.

Would also be nice if anyone able to selfhost some kbin instances, since theres not really many right now outside of the official https://kbin.social

ehh, im not really for invite only platforms, sure it can defeat spam but it also restricts genuine people from signing up. Also, whats wrong with just having a captcha?

i just realised what lemmy/kbin meant by "activitypub compatible", you can comment on mastodon posts and it'd show up on the mastodon end like normal for e.g, same thing with peertube and other activitypub services, actually pretty neat. I can basically ditch my other accounts, and just use kbin.

why not also add kbin instances on there as well? they still work with lemmy communities
