It’s got a very dissatisfied userbase

I really don't understand where you're getting this from. Because, at least my Instagram, is thriving. Honestly, I see so much wonderful art on it every day, it's ridiculous. I also follow many news outlets, magazines on it. The platform has never been better. Also, it has the advantage of having my entire professional and social circles on it. Everyone I know is using it daily, interact with each other.

Also, you can hide that barrage of reels very easily. Just tap [...] on a suggested reel, then tap "Disable suggestions for a month". It does exactly what it says.

It 100% is. They talk to someone on @mastodon.social in the screenshots. :)

It will be a part of the fediverse! But, yeah, still a Meta product...

Yes! This can be glorious!

Yup. It has the potential to be a very useful tool. Currently, I use Stories to post some text-based thoughts, which is ridiculous, haha.

I'm a photographer and I have a relatively large following on Instagram; all my professional and social contacts are on there. So, that's why it's personally appealing to me. The Fediverse has (so far) been a bit of a lonely experience for me (but I still like it a lot).

Jack Dorsey's clone/competitor is dead on arrival for me. Dorsey endorsed an anti-vaccination conspiracy theorist for the American presidential election. So... Yeah, not going to touch that one.

Here's everything we know about it so far:

  • It will use ActivityPub.
  • It will be a side app of Instagram.
  • It will most likely be called Threads.
  • Your Instagram verification status will transfer over.
  • There will be easy discovery tools in place: Your Instagram followers will be able to follow you on Threads as well (they won't transfer over automatically).

What do you think?

MetaFilter is the best of the best, I adore that website.

Yep. You'll have to visit the link to see the discussion unfortunately. But the point of this approach is* to only get posts without having to visit reddit.

No ads, no profits. :)

So, this isn't meant to be a "guide" or anything but I thought it could be helpful to some.

  • Find yourself an RSS feed reader (e.g. Feedbin).
  • Grab your subreddit link. (Example: reddit.com/r/museum)
  • Add .rss to the end of that link. (Example: reddit.com/r/museum.rss)
  • Add your subreddit RSS feeds to your feed reader.

This way, you can keep reading reddit without having to visit it. You will still need an account to participate, of course.

But I asked myself this question: "Do I really want to participate and keep feeding reddit content for free?"

You are what makes reddit what it is. If you can be yourself elsewhere, why waste your precious time on reddit?

You deserve better.
