hm, I hear you - but I think that would have to be embedded in the context of the meme; it's not like anyone knows you are a "cocksucker" (in a non-pejorative sense), let alone that you endorse sucking cock from the memes you share; the homophobic assumption that sucking cock is wrong and taboo is what makes the meme successful, and I don't think anything changes from the fact that you don't personally share that view and happen to be creating or sharing the meme

basically the homophobia is in the audience that interprets and receives the meme, the meme succeeds because it plays on that homophobia, and so the meme is "homophobic" in that sense

I have trouble imagining these memes being shared and being popular in the gay communities that I'm a part for that reason - the audience might find the implication that sucking cock is itself wrong as homophobic and uncomfortable, maybe a gay audience would recognize the hypocrisy and also understand the latent homophobia that makes the meme work, but I just don't imagine it being as popular (and to be honest I'm not seeing it shared in those communities; nor would I personally feel comfortable sharing it in those communities)

it should be clarified that when I point out the homophobia, it's not meant as some attempt to cancel the memes (let alone to indicate we should protect Trump out of some kind of concern for him as a homosexual), instead I'm just trying to point out reactionary threads, the way misogyny and homophobia are common even in anti-Trump sentiment

fuck Trump, obviously - but I'm not going to follow that up with "the cocksucker"

to be blunt, I don't believe you

if you call someone a cocksucker, it's obviously intended as an insult

telling me actually you think sucking cock is totally fine and it's actually just about the hypocrisy of the cocksucker is not believable - that's not why these memes succeed, people are just enjoying labeling Donald Trump as a cocksucker in a pejorative way

Not every joke involving gays, are bashing at homosexuality.

I do think jokes where the entire joke is that Donald Trump sucks dick is intended to be funny because homosexuality is taboo and sucking dick is considered bad, not just to Trump, but to people in general.

it's too good not to be a joke πŸ˜…

I hate dishwashers, I wash dishes by hand.

still homophobic tho, conservatives are just the wrong people to be calling it out (and if anything conservatives are the ideal target audience for the homophobic memes, since they are the ones most likely to be bothered by their Daddy being a closeted gay)

I also notice I hate when something I love becomes too popular, precisely because it loses its initial associations with the group I was happy to associate with, and becomes associated with a larger group that I don't feel connection with (or worse, becomes associated with a toxic fan base I actively don't want to be associated with - e.g. Rick and Morty, I love the show but developed shame for enjoying it, once it became popular and its biggest fans created negative associations with liking the show; you can tell yourself to ignore the shame, but I admittedly no longer identify as a fan of Rick and Morty because of what it will communicate to people about me).

my mom started to dye her hair when I was a small child, and not joking - I'm still not over it ... I really do hold onto things that long, and I'm beginning to wonder if I might be on the spectrum πŸ˜…

it's associative, the negative associations with Call of Duty players cannot be transferred to a console that doesn't support that game, so for people who want to avoid those associations it's a plus

  1. Live in a cheap apartment on the third floor
  2. Enjoy from the heating from the tenants of the first, second floor, and other neighbours
  3. Don't ever put the heater on and live like a parasite

lol, I feel called out - I used to do this, I lived on a cheap, third floor apartment and didn't use A/C or heat ... the temps in the house definitely got in the 90s F, and in the 40s F - but I never remember it getting down to the 30s, and I found it livable.

I'm getting phone calls from my health insurance company, first from a "registered nurse" with no information in the voicemail other than a call-back number (seems like it could be a scam, but I need to verify the number, so far people are saying the number is legit), and now I have a second phone call where the voicemail mentions they are calling from the insurance company's "concierge program".

Mostly I want to know if I can ignore these calls without consequence, or if I have to return them, and if so what should I expect?

I accidentally clicked on /c/196 and now I have to post, uh - here's something Wednesday related

Delicious dipped in gravy and served with cranberry relish or something tart to offset the richness.

Insides have: roast, stuffing, mashed potatoes.

I mixed water into vital wheat gluten and nutritional yeast with some spices to make a "quick" seitan. JoYo suggested pinching off pieces and frying it, but I wasn't sure how that would work or how big the pieces should be, now I realize maybe like bacon-bit sized or slightly larger?

Instead I flattened the whole dough and then fried it, making something akin to schnitzel. The problem then was that the center was uncooked while the outside was thoroughly cooked from frying. I put it in an oven at 300F for 30 minutes and it didn't seem cooked, so I put it in 350F for another 30 minutes and left it in there, and it was probably done at that point but leaving it in the warm oven it dehydrated.

So then I put it in a broth and boiled it so it would be juicy.

The texture was like I expected, seitan that hasn't been properly kneaded and pulled into long fibrous strands and allowed to sit overnight to fully develop the gluten tends to be spongey, and that's exactly how it was. The flavor wasn't too bad, and I didn't mind the texture either. I'll keep working on it, next time I'll try pinching small pieces and frying as originally instructed. 😊

Thanks JoYo for the inspiration!

Musk announced the $1 million giveaway at an event in Harrisburg, Pa., on Saturday. The event was part of a tour supporting Trump.

β€œI have a surprise for you," Musk said shortly before bringing out a giant check. "We are going to be awarding $1 million to people who have signed the petition β€” every day, from now until the election.”

"If you look at the conditions, you must be a registered voter," Hasen said. "And so this is essentially a lottery that's open only to people who register to vote. So it’s either an incentive for someone to vote or it’s a reward. And either way, it violates federal law."

He calls Musk's actions "clearly illegal" because it violates statute 52 U.S.C. 10307(c) and the Department of Justice’s election manual.

Hasen said willful violation of statute 52 U.S.C. 10307(c) comes with a $10,000 fine and up to five years in prison.

"I don't think it would be likely that he would suffer such a serious fine," Hasen said of Musk. "Although, if he was warned that this is illegal activity and continued to do it, I think that would create a different kind of situation."

Just wanted to put it on your radar in case you didn't know about the show (I only found out about it by accident). I think it's available on Netflix.

The show was written by an enby and the cast includes a trans man and Suzy Eddie Izzard.

ingredients:

  • beyond beef with onions & taco seasoning,
  • nacho cheez (homemade, the base is cashews, potato, and carrot),
  • pickled onion,
  • pickled jalapeno,
  • lettuce,
  • tomato,
  • flour burrito tortilla,
  • fried 6" corn tortilla for tostada, and
  • homemade cashew sour cream.

recipes to get you going the right direction (not all are vegan):

For the sour cream, I put 1 cup cashews with 1 TB vinegar (preferably something like sherry vinegar, ACV works too), maybe 1/4 tsp of salt (to taste), and enough water to get to the desired consistency ("as needed"). Blend in a high-powered blender like a Vitamix until smooth.

Can also inoculate with a yogurt culture and skip the vinegar and then ferment it if you have the time (use a yogurt maker and instructions, then ferment longer for a more sour flavor).
