What's Gen-Z style writing?

[–] dresden@discuss.online 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

How are you liking these? I read the first 3, but then kinda forgot about them, and now I don't remember much about them and whether I liked them or read them only because of JKR,

[–] dresden@discuss.online 2 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

Haven't really read many westerns, might be something to try.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 1 points 3 weeks ago

Good to know, will see if I can pick a copy, thanks!

[–] dresden@discuss.online 1 points 3 weeks ago

Ah, life happened. Nothing can be done about that.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 2 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

They didn't like the books? Or just not big readers?

[–] dresden@discuss.online 1 points 4 weeks ago (2 children)

How is the series? I have heard it mentioned many times but have never gotten around to reading it myself.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 2 points 1 month ago

No worries. Take your time.

[–] dresden@discuss.online 3 points 1 month ago

Thanks, adding it to my list! Will see if my local store has a copy.

Na, I like flashlights, have a few just laying around, fortunately stopped myself from "collecting" more before the hobby became too expensive. Having one more won't really matter, also don't have any headlamps, so one for the collection, if nothing else 😀

Yeah, Project Hail Mary has a wholesome feel to it.

Thanks for the review!

Still reading the third book in the Jack Reacher series by Lee Child, Tripwire. More than half-way through, closer to 2/3rd actually.

Not much to say about it. It's bad guy being a bad guy and Reacher being Reacher. Some interesting side characters, would love to see if it means any character development or not.

What about all of you? What have you been reading or listening to lately?

Liking this more than the second book. Reacher was very passive in that book, so it's nice to see him taking action in this one.

Read My Roommate is a Vampire by Jenna Levine.

It's a rom-com, which I don't generally read, so I can't judge if it was actually good or not. Personally, it felt too much like one of those K-Dramas, where a poor girl meets super rich guy, who is super handsome, and she keeps thinking about her all the time. Except this one has a Vampire. Not a big fan, but overall it was a fine time pass.

Bingo squares: Jude a book by its cover.

Finished Ghost Story by Jim Butcher.

That was some story! Quite different, but also quite similar (to the rest of the series). Also, part of the ending was expected, but was surprised by the rest. Looking forward to where the story goes from here.

Also read The Last Wish by Andrzej Sapkowski. The first Witcher book.

I read it quite a while ago, but hadn't finished the series, so got a boxed set and reading it now. I had forgotten how Fairy Tales heavy this book is.

Bingo squares (for both boooks): Author from a Different Continent (hard mode), Now a Major Motion Picture, Short and Sweet, Based on Folklore, Off your TBR Pile, also possibly Jerk with a Heart of Gold.

Started next book in the Dresden Files series, Ghost Story by Jim Butcher. This is book 13, and is pretty unique so far. The previous book "Changes" has changed quite a bit, and now we are living those changes.

Can't put it down, want to see how it develops!

My previous book, Streams of Silver covers 2 bingo squares: Title: [X] of [Y] and Off your TBR pile (hard mode).

Life is still pretty busy, not getting much time for Lemmy, but at least got some time to read now.

Still reading Streams of Silver by R. A. Salvatore. Book 2 of the series. Am more than halfway through now, if nothing comes up, should be able to finish it this week.

Finished Amulet series by Kazu Kibushi.

Love the story and art-style. Highly recommended for fantasy fans, specially younger audience.

Read Changes by Jim Butcher, book 12 of The Dresden Files.

I was expecting some "changes" due to the name and how people talk about the book, but wow, they changed everything. From the first line of the book to the last, it was fully captivating.

Wanted to start the next book right away, but held myself back.

Read Aftermath, the novella after Changes, from Side Jobs , short-story collection in Dresden Files world. This was the last story in the book, so I have officially finished Side Jobs too.

Many side stories are from point of view of different characters, and this was also from another character's point of view. So it was interesting to see how they view the world and hear their inner monologue.

Looking forward to where the story goes from here.
