In your first paragraph you mention doing 2 things already and stopping. Not calling you out as Ive started and stopped many many things when perhaps just sticking with one of those would have worked out way better.
Not strictly correct, IBM didnt approach MS. Gates' mother happened to know an IBM executive and found out they were looking for an OS.
That said some deft moves to acquire for QDOS for a one off fee and had the vision to license it to IBM.
