Totally agree on the atmosphere. It almost forces you to slow down

Pretty much the only game(s) where I looked forward to reading. Check out the first one's gameplay to get a gist of the mechanics. The second expands on them but there's a good chance you'll have something spoiled. The first game explored "who am I?" and the second is "how did I get here?" - I think the slow reveal of the latter adds a lot to the game. I also think the collectibles (audio logs) aren't just achievement bait. They add a lot, too.

I'm not watching the trailer or clicking this link but I have no hesitation in preordering. I went into the second game blind wondering how the hell they could make a sequel...but they pulled it off. And although I didn't like the ending of the second game as much, I'm going in blind again.

All right that's enough gushing over a video game.

Think about that, though. How much heat does a satellite produce to necessitate large fin stacks? And how much heat does a data center produce?

That is a wildly unreasonable backup plan. Texas isn't gonna agree to split. California isn't gonna agree to split. Like the only state that might consider it is...Alaska? I don't know. I don't think yoconsidering what a massive undertaking that is.

It'd be easier to replace FPTP with something else. But if even that is too hard, the simplest solution is to just get rid of the electoral college. The popular vote is unaffected by state size and without the electoral college, "swing states" don't exist so campaigns would become more distributed across the country

I don't like when people work my name into a conversation ("that's a good point, glimse!" Not "hey glimse how's it going?") because it makes me....suspicious. Like mind instantly jumps to the tactic taught to sales people to build rapport with prospective customers.

My guess is that it's a defense mechanism. I've been taken advantage of after blindly trusting someone before, now I'm predisposed to look for the signs.

I'm sure it doesn't help that I don't really love my name. I don't care enough to change it but it wouldn't have been my first pick.

Couldn't have been me :)

But still. I encourage you to make those edits in the future. Sometimes writers are wrong, sometimes they're pushing an agenda. I'm inclined to think whoever added that section did so maliciously and since it's not a popular article, no one noticed. Wikipedia thrives in part because of people like us!

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago (3 children)

You seem pretty knowledgeable on the subject, go ahead and edit it! Seriously. I mean that with zero snark.

Someone without your skillset is going to read that section and not know any better. Just delete it and explain why. I've made hundreds of edits over the years and I've never even made an account.

My encouragement here is real. We rely on each other's expertise. People like me who know nothing of the Gemini protocol need people like you to keep this page accurate.

Now for a tiny bit of playful snark: I am mildly infuriated that you noticed this yesterday and still haven't changed it. Do it! Be the change you wish to see!

You can edit Wikipedia when something is wrong. That's kinda like the whole point of the site

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

Yeah, I think my mistake was not realize the praise was coming from a much younger demographic. I was really surprised by how little gameplay there is.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Nostupidquestions is for questions you've been hesitant to ask for fear of sounding stupid, my favorite example being "am I supposed to wash a hoodie every time I wear it?"

I don't really think that applies here. Asklemmy is the general questions community

I went back and watched the video and ehhh I dunno, it's footage of old shows and concerts mixed with some really on-the-nose imagery. Though I don't disagree with your final point.

I haven't listened to it in awhile and I forgot the mix is pretty bad, too lol

Most repost bots don't last long because bot posts kind of aren't content. Forum sites like reddit and Lemmy are great for the comment section and bots don't interact. I see the appeal of user who wants to post THEIR stuff to both sites but even then, it kinda feels like reddit gets the content and Lemmy gets the scraps.

I don't mean this as a put down. This thing is better than anything I've ever made. I'm just concerned after seeing it happen countless times here. I'm kind of against automated posting in general because it takes the humanity from the internet

I'm struggling to replicate some window behavior I'm used to (from Windows) on a new install. Does anyone have any insight?

My goal is to play a game full screen but still be able to pin windows above it.

If a game is set to Full Screen, "Keep Above Others" doesn't work.

If I run a game Full Screen (Windowed), it keeps the taskbar visible and gives me cropped resolution options.

The only way I've found that works is manually configuring each window property to turn off the title bar, set a fixed position, and a minimum resolution. And also setting the taskbar to Auto Hide.

I don't want to manually configure every game (which often requires restarting it multiple times). I don't want my taskbar to Auto Hide. And I want it to be hidden until I alt+tab or press the start key.

Is this possible?

Inspired by the chocolate fruit post. I like brownies and I like most varieties of nuts and legumes but they're ruined when combined

I don't want some soft rocks in my smooth brownie. The chocolate flavor is so strong, you can't even really taste them. It just adds a bad mouth feel.

I do not understand why this is popular. Get em out of there!!

This won't be interesting for any longtime user but maybe it'll give someone on the fence the courage to switch. This post includes every problem I ran into and how I solved it

I settled on OpenSUSE Tumbleweed but I downloaded a couple more distros and loaded them into a Ventoy USB stick.

Good thing I did because despite partitioning the drive itself, the opensuse installer kept saying it said was out of space and no fix I found worked. So I booted up TempleOS for advice and the good lord whispered through my speakers, "try the Fedora KDE iso..."

The Fedora live environment booted right away. And unlike OpenSUSE, it recognized my 32:9 resolution so it looked good, too. I clicked through the installer and it rebooted. I was up and running in about 5 minutes.

The "app store" had a Steam and Discord flatpak so I could brag about my superior OS to my friends immediately. ~~Do not install Steam this way, though (see below)~~ EDIT: This apparently wasn't a mistake, see viktorz's comment below

The biggest problem I faced was with my audio interface (Focusrite Scarlett 18i8) which was recognized but hardware muted. Had to install alsa-scarlett-gui to unmute them....this was admittedly a huge pain in the ass but it's a niche problem and it was solved.

The best biggest problem was the video drivers. My resolution maxed out at 32:9 1080@119.97hz and the screen would not wake from sleep. I ran two commands to download and install the Nvidia drivers and it worked - 1440&240hz with HDR and it wakes properly

A minor problem I ran into was Steam not creating shortcuts for games. I learned that this was because the flatpak version is siloed. Installing it "normally" solved this problem. I had already downloaded some games but was able to move them from the original folder in /var to the new one in /home. EDIT: In the comments, viktorz said a symlink would have accomplished the same thing. See what he wrote for more info

Another minor "problem" (I was prepared to lose the functionality) was my crappy Corsair mouse/keyboard. I mainly wanted to disable the default RGB rainbow but was thrilled to find CKB-Next which allowed me to change the colors and map the extra keys on my keyboard.

Anyway, I don't know why I wrote all this. I guess I was just surprised to find how easy it was and wanted to share. I'm sure I'll run into some headaches once I try to actually use the computer for stuff but for now, I'm quite happy with the experience.

I've found that I am. I sometimes write a reply, see that it was posted by an RSS bot, and delete the draft. OP doesn't exist so what's the point?

Her arrangement of Pink Pony Club got recommended to me and while it was amazing, too, this is the one I keep coming back to.

Not just a cover, it's an original arrangement and performance of a brass ensemble all played by the same person. Pretty cool.

I love gospel music. I don't mean the overproduced crap they play at megachurches, I'm talking about a piano, bass, and a stomp/clap choir in a black southern community church led one or more strong, usually female, singers.

I've never heard this music that wasn't about God and that kind of puts me off so I'm wondering...is there gospel MUSIC without the gospel LYRICS?

[Edit]I'm talking Blues Brother church scene music - thanks shittydwarf for the link

I have a "flexible" WFH schedule which means I'm almost always working from home. Today, I've been lured in with an NDA breakfast with a manufacturer.

So you know what that means: 1 hour of "yum I love breakfast sandwiches" followed by 6 hours of "why did I think that would be worth the drive?"

My friends and I were active Twitter users up until it got sold and the only reason my account isn't deleted already is because I have a LOT of memories there.

I looked into downloading the tweets.js archive but that seems to be only what I wrote, not the original tweet if it's a reply. Having the full conversations that led to in-jokes is what I'm after!

I understand why this would be very complicated and to add to that, half of our profiles are set to private so The Way Back Machine and other public services won't work. Media would be nice but it's not a requirement.

Does something like this exist?

The bolts for the handle prevent going from top to bottom in one motion across the whole door so I had to adapt. Over time, I've become pretty good at removing all the water to prevent streaks when it dries even on the sleepiest of mornings.

He stayed at my sister's yesterday so he and her dog (his brother) could get the crazies out before family comes over. A smart move but I missed him more than I thought I would.
