I suppose the first team is Real Madrid, and Real Madrid’s biggest Europe rival is Bayern. So that probably an argument to think about the Bayern as the second best club .
Campazzo, Rubio, Sergio Rodríguez… they exists. Jasickevicious, Djorjevic… they had always existed.
For example, Calderon to get a good NBA career had to become one of the best assist to turnover ratio player, and one of the best shooters in the league (plus an amazing team builder in and out the court).
