He does this thing where he runs on the sideline and slows up to make it look like he’s going out of bounds. This makes the defender slow up and then he’ll speed back up to gain extra yards.
It’s gaming the system and I can’t totally fault him but it’s kind of gross. As a defender, you’re screwed. If you commit to the tackle, he just has to run out of bounds to draw a super soft personal foul for being hit out of bounds.
This is also why most of his running highlights are on the sideline. Defenders can’t tackle 100% and Allen knows this.
It’s just frustrating that he only gets credited for his athleticism and not his cheap exploitation of the rules designed to keep QBs safe.
Our olinemen have said it’s physically exhausting to run that play. I don’t think they could run it every other play.
It’s not a cheat code. It’s technique, strength, and conditioning just like everything else on both sides of the trenches.
