The US is unique in the 30 year fixed rate. It’s great if you have one, but it can have some externalities and effects like what we see here.

Most transit advocates prefer trams/streetcars over buses. They’re safer and can coexist with people much better.

Those things are still available, they’re just not the only option to the detriment of everyone else. Most people and things should be entering the city by rail, which removes the need for city destroying highways that are ever widening.

Subsistence farming. However:

  1. Farming blows

  2. If everyone has to farm then no one can specialize to do other things

  3. If you think the USA is a car-dependent sprawl that’s terrible for the environment currently, wait until literally everyone has enough land to sustain themselves and requires infrastructure to connect it all
