We can thank the beauty of ActivityPub to let people reply across multiple platforms.

Fedilab works great for me.

Relying on the donation of others to the Lemmy dev and instances to make profits is way more greedy. It is even parasitic on one side.

People not donating is a thing but they don't make profits. It's a huge difference on the greedy scale.

If the sync dev would be fair and not greedy, he would give at least the 2/3 of his revenues from the app to the Lemmy devs and the instances. Otherwise, I guess instances should be able to block these apps.

I understand everyone need to earn something. And keeping max 1/3 is good.

People need to understand and in priority the people coming from Reddit that Lemmy is not reddit. Reddit earns money with ads and investors. They could inject ads through the APIs and states in the usage terms that 3rd party devs could not remove them. They didn't do it.

Lemmy is a complet other story. Lemmy rely on donations. So, when someone donates to the Lemmy devs and/or instances, the dev of a paid app is making money on this donation. Without the Lemmy devs and the instances, the paid app would not exist at all. It's not fair at all to not share the revenue of these apps.

These paid apps and their devs are at best predators and at least parasitics.

I don't have your issues with it. I have a ton of interactions on Mastodon and everything is clear.

The problem people have with mastodon is how they see it. You wrote all your rant about mastodon being a copy of Twitter with the Twitter terminology. Mastodon is not Twitter.

I did the same mistake at the beginning. I thought it was a federate Twitter. It made it empty and frustrating to use. I didn't understand what people do there.

I give it a second try. This time, I took another way to understand it. Instead of comparing to Twitter and thinking at a federated Twitter, I took it like a new experience.

After that, I discover the philosophy behind mastodon and it's completely different. It's not Twitter or a Twitter like. People are nice and really active.

The number of reply doesn't matter that much. What is important are the boosts. People need to find groups boosting the toots. You need to mention the group when you toot and you need to follow groups. The second is hashtags to follow and search for. But hashtags aren't the primary thing to follow.

Then, you begin to find accounts to follow. But keep in mind the philosophy is different and you won't use it as Twitter.

I'm a grandpa of mastodon.

Toots despite the proximity with tweet is good for the community aspect.

You need to follow hashtags but primary groups. You will find groups boosting toots about your topics. It's the first accounts to follow then you will find others.

It's not that hard. People have to keep in mind, it's not Twitter and so it works differently.

The future of the internet is personal. It won't be the case globally.

I highly prefer quality to quantity. It's better for then mental health.

You need to follow hashtags and groups related to your interest. Groups will boost the toots and make them visible. When you follow a group, it's like following hundreds of people at once.

When tooting, you have to mention groups and not only hashtags. The groups will boost the toot for visibility.

It's a vit of practice with groups and hashtags.

The quality of the discussion is miles away from Twitter. People are nice and a lot less of toxicity. Mastodon is amazing as Lemmy.

The base of this creation is a pushback tug used in the airport. They adapted it for trailers.
