Sweet post. To me this looks like the makings of a sustainable community and I remain pretty optimistic. Curious what the numbers for Kbin would look like.

Amsterdam is like that because they built it on a literal tidal floodplain reclaimed using dikes and when they put in a foundation under buildings they used wooden posts which eventually rotted away causing buildings to slump into the soft, wet earth underneath.

The problems and geology of the eastern US with respect to sinking land are much different.

Yeah my buddy and his wife just had a kid and then 2 days later someone stole her Kia. Quite a rollercoaster of a week for them.

That logic is insanely frustrating. You see it in policy all the time and it drives me crazy.

Yeah where I was living in Seattle diet sodas were exempt from the tax. I do recall that Starbucks thing but that’s a whole other issue.

I live in an EU country now and apparently they’re gonna be rolling out sugary drink taxes soon and I’m not yet clear on whether diet sodas are included but I haven’t looked into it closely yet.

Where I've seen such a tax implemented that was not the case. But sure, I wouldn't be surprised if that happened somewhere.

Sugary drink taxes don’t apply to diet sodas either

Yeah I've seen a lot of SNES still working today. I had one myself just a few years ago and sold it when I had a big move. So that's a lifespan of about 25-33 years depending on when the existing units were produced.

Freetube has been working great for me on Mac and it has channel “subscriptions” without an account

Not a single mention of the word terrorism. When the fuck is the media gonna start calling a spade a spade?
