Yeah I reference that article a lot. It's happening everywhere. Feels like it's accelerated rapidly in the last few years too.
nicetriangle
Yeah it's fucking absurd
I've heard anecdotally that they've done small user trials of fully blocking people for X amount of time for using adblock.
They even had a semi reasonable premium tier that was just "no ads, that's all" for something like $7. Now they're kicking everyone off that plan and removing it and your next option is to pay 50+% more and you get a bunch of additional crap that I didn't ask for. I just wanted no ads.
These people seem to adamantly not want me as a customer.
So annoyed at how all these services keep degrading for users. I was happy to pay for premium light. I don't need download/music/etc I just wanted no ads. Simple as that. The price was fairly reasonable and I would have kept paying it. Now they got rid of the premium light and I have to pay at least 50% more for additional things I don't and will not use.
Alright then, well you lost a customer and I'll just use AdBlock. And if you somehow figure out how to disable that, I'm just going to find content somewhere else. I'm fucking sick of ads. I'll pay a reasonable amount to remove them. But I will not be continually wrung out for more and more money. Just leave me alone.
All that said, I resigned from my mod positions on a few pretty large subs, wiped my 120k karma account of all comments and posts, and haven't submitted a single thing to the site in about 2-3 months.
Good riddance, tbh
Most major subreddits show a decrease of between 50 and 90 percent in average daily posts and comments, when compared to a year ago
I want to believe this is due to the protests and people noping out (and I bet some of it is) but this observation ignores the Covid effect.
Reddit aside, basically every online community I frequent has seen a major dip following the end of the worst of the pandemic. Slack and Discord communities I have been in for years have tanked considerably. Tons of YouTubers I follow have dropped off majorly in the frequency of new videos. Forums are way sleepier. Engagement on a lot of social sharing platforms I use is way down.
I think a big chunk of this is people being able to go out into the real world again and also having spent a couple years being chronically online because that was kinda all there was to do. And now they're wanting anything but that.
yeah almost definitely is
Yeah but Coneheads operates on a level of campiness and absurdity that this cartoon just doesn't look to be nearing by any stretch. Coneheads is definitely cult classic material and this just looks like another whatever cartoon to me.
Yep my exact reaction too. They're way too emotive and human sounding.
Big number must go up! Even if attempts to make it go up only work on the short term and then later destroy your business! Makes lots of sense doesn't it?!
Capitalism is so broken
Bingo. This move right at the same time they killed premium light really muddies the messaging on this one
