I took the advice of the photographers of Nat Geo and Playboy, to never pack your exposed film in your luggage. Then to use the lead lined bags to protect them from x-rays.

Alas, security (way pre TSA) turned up the power to see through the bag. Streaks and spots galore.

After that it was simple zip locks and request for hand search.

It depends on the purpose to the display of the photos.

A friend, now an award winning photographer, goes to various events to show off his photography, with a focus on his 2 big projects. He makes 18x24, 2x3 & 4x6 prints of his subjects.

He has long strips of aluminum or plastic, that get clamped to the top and bottom of the prints. Those then become the hanging points and weight to hold the print straight.

Fortunately it's rare, but it does happen.

I lost a full day of shots when I was on a cruise. Not a paid gig, but lots of shots of the boat, people, our excursion.

A few years later I found a tool that can recover files from a SD card. I was able to recover a few dozen, but I shot hundreds that day.

It was already abandonware and stopped working with some windows update.

It's a tough area to get into, as others have pointed out.

A friend of a friend was very successful wedding photographer, as in costing thousands for wedding shoot.

She had a price list on her website. At the bottom she had the "Dream" package. $20K + all travel expenses. ie: She was dreaming anyone would go for it.

You had her 24/7 for a week, coverage of every pre-wedding event, wedding prep, the wedding, the reception, and any post reception events.

She sold one in her career. But was under such a NDA, she couldn't even talk about where she went or show any the pictures, let alone who the couple was.
