I used to work in cold storage distribution for Loblaws. There is even so much more thrown out before it gets to the store, we had a giant bin that would get emptied once our twice a week. Someone eventually organized something to donate discarded produce to the local shelters and the zoo I think so at least it wasn't going to waste, hopefully they are still doing that.

As a smoker, this will do absolutely nothing. Just increase tax more so it's too expensive to start. Teens aren't prepared to start a $30 to $90 a week habit and it'll push people like me to cutting back/quitting faster; use that tax to better fund quitting programs and other health efforts. It's already getting expensive to be a smoker with packs nearing $20, if I didn't have the salary I do I would've quit a while ago.

Nicotine is a hell of a drug. Any young people reading this please don't start, and if you have stop while you can. A routine is a powerful thing to break from.

Edit: what New Zealand is doing by restricting people after a certain birth year from buying all together I think it's one of the better ways of doing it. If buying cigarettes will always be that much of a hassle it won't be worth starting. That along with increased taxes I think would be the best way forward to stamp out cigarettes in my lifetime.

The federal government can't just barge into provincial jurisdiction because they feel like it.

Say it louder for the people in the back.

I'm sure rents are probably a reason too, not sure how any small business could survive in a district where the average house price is like 3.5 million.

I find that's really only with alcohol and coffee, pop or water for instance is in metric, ie 1lt, 2lt bottle,

It could also lead to better productivity and less turn over with employees which would be a net positive in the end. When I did labour jobs 2 days off was not enough for me to recover, 3 days off would have been better for my body and mental health and maybe I would've stuck around longer.

And these were the same excuses used when we went to 40 hours a week and the world kept on turning.

The housing crisis is caused by piss poor land management and a lack of available buildable land due to geography. What would better alleviate the issue and lead to a better living standard would be to rezone the majority of the city to permit missing middle development rather than band-aiding the solution with this so some assholes can keep their sfd in the middle of a transit corridor in the biggest city in the province.

If you wanted to include these housing types in with the missing middle, then for sure. I could definitely see these working in certain spaces.

The bigger issue, and the same one with tiny homes is that there is no building standard. Until one gets made they will have to be built to the standard of sfd which means doors, windows, hallways, etc have to be a certain size.

I really should start calling bylaw on all my boomer neighbours still watering their lawns. God forbid they get a little brown during a drought.

Mid density building is also dense enough to support frequent transit services. You're not going to get 20 minute buses in the suburbs forcing everyone to drive which means more spread out lots to accommodate 2+ cars, larger roads, etc.

Mid density doesn't work for everyone but it works for a lot of people, the issue is we have so little of it in most Canadian cities so people aren't exposed to it enough to think of it as a viable option.

Can't forget the same dumb title that's usually something like "Do older guys even like 18 year old?"

Obviously girl, that's why we're all here and you have 400k karma with a month old account
