There is a bass bleed hole on the nozzle. Search for Gizaudio review for them, Timmy explains it in detail how it is affecting the sound.
I really love them. I did the tape mod, took like 20 seconds and switched to spinfits. Very nice bass for my tastes, nice stage, nice detail. Very comfortable and while the cable is pretty low quality, i don't mind it....at least it doesn't tangle and is quite light.
What type of music do you listen to?
I have them both, very good picks man! Enjoy them!
I could try to give you some feedback in the near future (couple of days maybe) as i'm currently waiting for a pair of Hifiman HE-x4 and i will compare them to my HD599. I think 598 and 599 sound about the same if i'm remembering correctly.
