Typing this comment from a Note 7 pro, from 2019. Other than lacking os updates, it serves me well for all my usecases.

From the AMA, someone suggested

Yeah some Up/Download + simple management API would be really nice. Since Proton is loved a lot among programmers, I'm very sure there'll be a lot of people in the community to create some implementation their own (including me)

And Andy(CEO) replied

This is actually good/important input. We went this direction with Proton VPN on Linux and the first version was a community built version which as OK. Eventually, we had to take the effort in-house to ensure it was sufficiently well maintained and keeping up with the latest features, but it was still a goo way to get started. We will indeed consider this for Proton Drive also, although it is a more complicated product (includes complex parts like sync engine and version conflict resolution logic, etc). -Andy

Also, when pointed about Henry,Andy replied

Yes, we know Henry, he should have access to the API specs/docs and he has a direct line of communication with us. -Andy

So all hope is not i would say. And i would prefer rclone and apps based over than than electron wrappers tbh.

I too use torrents if possiblez but sometimes, the movie we seek maynot be available or won't have enough seeders. Sites like this, and others mentioned in fmhy are useful at those times.

With the speed HDR prep works are going on, we probably get usable HDR in linux around 2025

Kerala have a big contribution to this since all the school IT labs + government offices here use ubuntu or its slightly modified versions. Wish if every state did so.

This was the distro that introduced me to linux, followed by raspbian. Brings so much memories.

This picture somehow reminds me of Mad Max movies.

I used to be on pure Arch for 2.5 years, but currently uses cachyOS. And its so much removes the pain points of arch, as well as giving super fast performance.

I still can't believe how this one comes back again and again. One of the greatest feat of humanity.

These TWIG issues really shows how much Sovereign Tech Fund boosts the accessibility and modernisation for GNOME. What would have been if all countries started spending such an amount for OSS projects

A very well written blog. Never knew what us he difference between adwaita and gnome, and this blog made clear exactly that.

From reddit announcement:

Hi everyone, This is Andy, Proton founder/CEO here. I just wanted to share the news that Standard Notes and Proton are joining forces.

This was an idea that people from both the Proton and Standard Notes communities have brought up repeatedly over the years, and after discussing it with Mo, the founder of Standard Notes, we both felt it was a good idea.

Both Proton and Standard Notes have unique shared values. We are both community-driven, not VC-financed, and committed to open-source. By joining forces, we hope to deliver more valuable services to both the Proton and Standard Notes user communities. A bit more about this on the Proton blog here.

As always, thanks for your support as we continue to fight for a more private internet, now with even more people on the team!

Hi everyone,

After reviewing your feedback, we want to share the new Free Inactive Account Policy.

Why does Proton need an inactivity policy?

Inactive data stored on Proton servers increases the risk of abuse and the operating cost for everyone in the community. The updated policy ensures that we:

  • Offer the best services to our active users
  • Manage our resources in a sustainable way
  • Protect all users who need Proton Privacy products

As many of you know, Proton is a community-funded organization providing free access to our services to millions around the world. We do not have venture capital funding or advertising profits, making our user subscriptions our only source of revenue.

What is the new policy?

Free inactive accounts and all data associated with them will be deleted after one year.

How do I keep my account active?

Subscribers are automatically considered active.

Users on a free plan need to log in or use our services once every 12 months. If you are already logged in, you should use one of our products at least once every 12 months (for example, access your inbox, read an email, connect to a VPN server, etc.).

For Proton Mail, activity is considered by Account, not by email address. Keeping an active Account ensures that any email addresses you created for that Account (@proton.me, @pm.me, etc.) also remain active.

If you are subject to insurmountable circumstances that won't allow you to stay active on your account for 12 months, please get in touch with Customer Support.

When does it start?

There will be a one-year grace period before the new policy takes place on April, 9, 2026, providing two years of inactivity to current free users.

When will I be notified?

Notifications will be sent to your recovery email 30, 15, and 7 days before any action is taken.

Thank you for providing your feedback in building this policy and let us know if you have any questions about it.
