This is actually 2 questions:

  1. How do you proceed after the bye
  2. How do you proceed after the season

As you can imagine, Vikings fans have a lot of opinions here. You have your Kirk loyalists, your tank commanders and even your Dobbs defenders.

It’s a bit of a cluster, but I am confident /r/nfl will have the answers.

Let’s start with the 1st question. You have 3 options here:

  1. Start Mullens: very likely this will give you the best chance to make a playoff run, but let’s be real… you are not going to do anything when you get there.

  2. Start Dobbs: Maybe you could delude yourself into thinking last week was a blip and not his luck running out?

  3. Start Hall: He looked good in the couple of series he played, why don’t you see what you have to get a more accurate picture for our next question?

Now on to question 2, again we have 3 options here:

  1. Resign Kirk, make no mistake, you will not get a discount. Let’s assume it’s a market rate deal. He will be 36 for most of next season coming off the injury.

  2. Fuck them picks and try to get in spitting distance of one of the top QB prospects in the 2024 draft.

  3. Let it fall to you, take a QB in the top 50ish picks, have Hall and rookie QB dual it out, let the chips fall where they may.

It’s a complicated situation, and we need answers. Obviously Kwesi is here religiously so give him some good advice.

Source: he is not listed on the inactive list

News because Fowler said he wouldn’t play this week

Thought this was an interesting discussion for a few reasons.

First of all, he absolutely deserves it.

The Vikings who had one of the worst defenses in the league in almost all statistical categories, with largely the same players are 14th in PFF grade, 8th in DVOA, 11th in ESPN’s defensive efficiency metric, 13th in YPG and 15th in PPG.

It’s a ridiculous turnaround that Flo is undeniably responsible for.

But then you add the layer of the lawsuit, will owners want to touch that?

Plus, Flo was in what he viewed as a toxic organization last go around. Will he be picky? He has to know this will be his last shot at a HC gig. He also has small kids and has stated a bunch of times how much they enjoy living in MN.

Last factor here is the Vikings ownership who have time and time again opened their pockets to get the team whatever it needs. I have no doubt they would be willing to give him the Assistant HC title and make him the highest paid assistant coach in the league.

So what do you think happens here, does Flo take a job this offseason?

The details here actually don’t really matter outside of Danielle Hunter being involved. This actually makes sense considering Jonathan Gannon’s familiarity with Hunter.

So, let’s assume the trade looks something like this:

Vikings give Danielle Hunter + a conditional 2nd

Cardinals give Kyler Murray + a conditional 4th

Kylers Cap hit for 2024 is 16m.

The Vikings currently have 7m in cap room.

Trading Hunter would create another 11m in cap room, leaving the Vikings with 18m in space, just enough to fit Kylers contract for 2024.

The Cardinals have about 11m in cap room, and would pick up around 8m of Hunters cap hit for 2024, leaving them with ~2m in cap room after the trade.

As crazy as this idea seems on the nose, it is actually super plausible if the Vikings determine Kyler is their guy past this season.

Any NFC north fans know that Lambeau and Soldier field have horrendous field conditions as soon as the weather starts to turn.

Without a doubt, before any game at either of these stadiums when the weather gets into the 30’s, it’s a media talking point about coaches reminding players to wear proper footwear.

There is little doubt that Cousins was wearing 7 stud cleats to avoid slipping and boom, same outcome as Rodgers on turf, foot catches in the surface and achilles pops.

So what is the solution here? Is the problem turf? Bad natural surfaces?

Or, is football just a sport where injuries are going to happen and this turf/grass debate is completely overblown.
