this is one of those things that if it was an iOS update instead, 99999 accounts would come out of the woodwork and say “lol don’t care we’ve had this for centuries on Android” in the comments :P

for my part im glad technology is progressing 👍

and that’s absolutely fair. i think another group though are uncomfortable and are simply unaware that they can move.

for example, i saw a conversation where some folks were expressing uncomfortability that .world is federated with .ml. someone else brought up switching to an instance that was defederated with .ml (happened to be mine, shoutout .cafe) and they were all like “yo! dope let me do that”

so it’s almost a matter of education/spreading awareness for some at least

i don’t think compounding problems imply a single compound solution.

instead, tackle each problem directly.

  • encourage account migration to combat overcentralization
  • encourage installment of more mods to combat ineffectual moderation
  • call for transparency in moderator selection to combat cronyism

lemmy.world has middling to bad moderation.

lemmy.world also has at least a few divisive mods who are close friends of the lemmy.world admins and are known to retain their positions for that reason.

lemmy.world is by far the largest instance.

taken alone, none of these are a problem. together i find that concerning and exactly the kind of reason the fediverse was built to avoid.

some place

the United States. that’s where liberals and conservatives are counter-protesting anti-genocide movements.

there are more than two sides to this conflict. both major parties in the US are pro-Israel aparthied. you’re trying to add false nuance to this post that doesn’t exist and goes against the intent of OOP.

why does everyone lowkey suck at transcription in here lol. ~~no hate just confused.~~ small hate? your claims that this is a “transcription” is deceptive and disingenuous to those reliant on alt text and screen readers.

actually 100% accurate transcript as follows:

Thembo
@OnlyAWorldAway

Liberals: oh you care about palestine? stop tweeting and do something

*people organize nation-wide protests and actions at great personal risk*

Liberals: you swine. i hope the police beat you into a fine red paste. i hope they come after your families. how dare you

yes. maintaining or tightening safety standards and their associated penalties in conjunction with penalizing delays is probably the best way to do this.

as a non-expert, i am hoping that the investigations into recent safety failures go somewhere positive so that the fears this comment section are bringing up are assuaged. cuz we shouldn’t as citizens be forced to choose between basic consumer rights and safety.

either clever misinformation or really bad misunderstanding here. “profit compared to revenue” is not a useful metric of profitability and is quite misleading.

the costs associated with running an airline are incredibly high, mostly because of jet fuel. so of course, airlines are going to be the industry with some of the smallest profit margins.

and airlines are currently in a recovery period from covid, so their profits are lower than pre-pandemic numbers.

none of this excuses the cost cutting, stock buybacks, and other exploitative behaviors of airlines. 1-2% of billions of dollars is still a fuck ton of money.
