I don't know why my other comment got down voted. Basically all I do is night photography. The techniques vary wildly based on what you're doing and there are lots of different types.

Landscape astro
Deep space Astrophotography
Aurora photography
Night time city scape
City light time lapses
Star lapses
Star trails
Light painting

All of these need different settings and techniques and doesn't even include that you can basically just add night to any other photography.

It really depends on the type of night time photography you want to do.

I almost completely lost a 2000 frame aurora time lapse on a card that corrupted during shooting.
