After a really long hiatus from headphones, I couldn't resist getting the 58x. I used to have the HD 800S and the DT1770 but sold it 4 years ago.

My taste have shifted to warmer and mellower signature. So this was perfect. It also has sub bass unlike the 6xx.

I wanted to go back to the hobby years ago, but it got pushed back due to other priorities. Now I'm back to the rabbit hole i guess lol.

Anyway, i'm thinking of running these with the new JDS amp or maybe a tube amp (suggestions are welcome).

I'm a music producer and am thinking about getting the SoundID Reference tool for my Beyerdynamics DT 1990 Pro but I am really struggling to decide if it's the right thing to do.

I got the trial version and set it to 69% and it definitely sounds "better". The bass is more pronounced and it makes the overall listening experience way more fun compared to not using it.

Now I fear that my decisions in music making will be negatively affected when using it. On the other hand does it really matter that much because everyone is listening from a different system anyway? I fear I will fall down that rabbithole and never stop thinking about how sound is perceived on another end and constantly compare my mixes with and without it.

Do any of you guys use SoundID Reference or have used it in the past? If so would you say it's worth it?

^(The purple line in the picture shows my headphones frequency response and the green one the inverted calibration to make it more flat. Together the add up to the not so visible white line.)

Like what? I didn't know they were this good, the definition even with crappy aac is super good and you can hear every single instrument clearly, I knew people said they were good but I'm surprised apple cared so much about sound quality

What is your experience when deciding between the two technologies? Or do you own amps of both types and use them for different things? Are they really different?

For me they very sound different, and since the first time I heard a tube headphone amp I was enchanted by its rawness. I had been driving my Abyss AB1266 Phi TC with a solid state amp (off-brand with Chinese components) and it sounded great but I had read these headphones really need a good amp so I went to a store to see what can drive them better, and tried a tube amp from Germany. 10 seconds in I was able to tell this is what I needed. Might be a matter of taste? Yes, but to each his own, I have read people who hate the Abyss and also others like me who love them.

I'd like to know your opinions too.

My current picks are: Jabra Elite 10 Bose Quiet Comfort 2 Galaxy Bud Pro 2

I originally thought of getting the Sony XM5 until I realized they used foam ear tips which is a deal breaker as I use alcohol to clean my ear tips just to be sanitary.

i want to know what you guys think just looks so over the top that it honestly looks out of place.

honestly its likely one of those gaming headsets but i wonder which one looks the worst.

the product doesnt have to sound good it just has to look off, but it be funnier if it actually sounds somewhat decent lol.

Hello,

What are considered some of the lightest, most comfortable phones for all day wear? Not worried about price. Won't be using amp or DAC. Thanks and happy holidays!

Just mustered up some change to get myself some The MEZE 99 classics, and altho I know the wired quality is much better, I do walk around with my headphones on (even not playing anything just as habit).

for starters, i want it to be bluetooth (or wifi) whichever is better quality, if possible both, so i can use wifi on my computer (not to lose quality) and Bluetooth on my phone.

second option that i really would like to have more than anything is that i want to be able to hotswap batteries. i even got some very shitty steelseries headphones just because they have that option. I want to be able to charge one battery outside of the headset and have it ready to swap with the one inside the headset the moment it is low.

and the third thing is that i would like to make it not look like im wearing a bomb on my head. the sleeker the better.

I am into a lot of DIY so I'm open to any sort of 3d modelling for extra equipment on the headphones. 3D printing and such are on the table, i do know how to solder but i dont know much about circuits.

TLDR: i need options to make MEZE 99 classics wireless while not losing a lot of quality and having hot swappable batteries.

Hi all,

I am currently in the market for two headphones, one is a set of in ear monitors, and the other is over ear headphones, specifically the FATFrequency Grand Maestro, and the Meze Empyrean II, My problem is that I can't seem to find anywhere that I may be able to try these headphones, let alone purchase them from dedicated retailers in the UK, the best I can do is have them shipped from the US, from a US company, like MusicTech, but obviously before I sink 5 Grand into audio equipment, I would like to try them out first, even though the reviews are outstanding to say the least. Does anyone here have any ideas where I can find somewhere to trial these two headphones? Maybe an event of some sort (if so when does this/these event(s) take place and where, preferably in or near London)

Any help at all is greatly appreciated! Many Thanks!!

I’ve bought some Beats Studio 3 for Black Friday, although I know they aren’t a go or aren’t a favorited headphone I got them on a really good deal that I couldn’t pass on. Any thoughts on this and if it was a good purchase lmk.

Could you use the Sony NW-A306's graphic equalizer to increase its maximum output volume in a transparent way (not affecting overall sound quality) by increasing every channel by the same amount (that is, keeping a flat curve but pushing it "up")?

Hello everyone, I'm a long time lurker here. I really like looking at you people going through your audiophile journey. It's amazing to see people get their HE1 or discuss about their preference in IEMs.

One thing I noticed though is I haven't seen a single person here post about a pair of JBL headphones or the earbuds. So I guess I'll be the one posting about it.

So, earlier, I found my very old JBL Endurance Run earbuds. It looks very old - wire insulations are stripped, and the tips are eaten by insects. I didn't expect it to even work anymore. But I changed the eartips with a new one and plugged it into my computer.

It still works and it still sounds the same like the day I bought it. I always liked the airiness of the sound it gives and it's not that harsh to my ears.

How about you guys? Have you ever owned a pair of JBL cans or buds? If you did, how was your experience?

Lastly, what IEMs can you compare with its sound signature?

I've heard it being used in several reviews and comments, most notably it's column being removed from Crinacle's database. I know it might generally deal with lower mids and higher bass, though I have no idea what it definitively is. I tried to find out what it is, but I couldn't find any info other than mentions of it on several subreddits as well as Google. So what is note weight definitively, and why did Crinacle have a column for it in the first place, then neglect it and ultimately remove it?

Please don't crufiy me. My old pads have seen many miles and we're in desperate need to an upgrade. Just got my ori pads in the mail and the difference is night and day. No longer feel like my ear is touching, and the sound has improved so much. The only complaint I have is the stupid ring retention system for these headphones. Pita to get all 4 in, but worth it.

I was pretty active on Head-Fi at the time and snatched up this deal when someone posted it. I think the HD800 was still $1500 at the time.

Though that is probably not even my greatest "steal", which could be loosely seen at actually stealing. I bought the Fostex TH-900 from a relatively new online vendor, and they accidentally sent me 2 of them. I checked and legally in the US when a merchant sends you something you didn't order, you aren't required to send it back. I held onto it for a bit and that company never contacted me about it and I sold it new in box for $900. I guess they were too disorganized to notice.

I'm not all entirely lucky or wise with money. I bought the Hifiman Edition X on release for $1400 and similar tier headphones like Edition XS are less than $500 now. But I still like them enough for it to be a permanent part of my collection.

Hello everyone.. I don't know if I'm in the right subreddit but help would be really appreciated. I see in this forum a lot of recommendations on getting certain headphones and DAC/AMPs and so on. I'm now able to start getting better stuff for myself and for my pc and gaming I got a PC38x as I've seen it is a good headset..

I got in my PC a Soundblaster Z sound card (it is not DAC/AMP) and I've been using the SBX profile for allI do.. I don't know if I have been wasting audio quality or anything using these settings. I don't really know much of EQ or whatever.

I've tried without it and it seems audio is a little low.. I know everyone says these headphones can be driven without AMPs but it seems fairly low to me.... unless I crank the volume knob up in which sounds very loud xD

Anyways.. I even tried Dolby Atmos to attempt get better sound... positioning or whatever.... but what I don't want to do is to get used to bad equalizing or bad audio because of me using software or whatever.. how do I know that I'm getting good audio as it is expected?

So... what is the recommendation? should I keep using my soundcard? is SBX profiles good and what can I get recommended?... is raw audio better?...

I'm just.. confused

The Hifiman HE1000se are my daily drivers and known for not being too power hungry. I have two chains in which I listen to them:

  • Living Room: Marantz DAC-1 -> Schiit Asgard2
  • Desk: Schiit Bifrost2 -> Schiit Lyr3

I wonder whether the HE1000se benefit much from better amps, and if so, what price range we are talking about… Are amps like the Feliks Audio Euforia or the Flux Labs Volot a complete overkill? Is there something worthwhile in between? Or is even the DAC the better component to tackle here?

I am looking at the scarlet 2i2 https://us.focusrite.com/products/scarlett-2i2 I see it does have one headphone jack in the front, whoever i want a audio interface that can support two headphone jacks.

On the back of the device i see two output ports, L and R. Am i able to plug in a headphone in one of these jacks? (downside)

Also is there a better solution?

I don't understand why people buy these nice and expensive headphones only to use Spotify, arguably the worst quality music streaming service that exists. It sounds so bad compared to Apple Music, YouTube Music, Tidal, Deezer, or even Napster. At least you are getting lossless sound with those, it won't be the same as having a ripped flac from a CD but anything is better than the AAC 128/320kbps that Spotify offers. It just bothers me when I see photos of headphones on this sub and then they have Spotify open in the background, I just can't understand!
