I recently got two pairs of Airpods Pro 2nd gen. from Craigslist for 1/2 MSRP. They were sold as new in a sealed box. They seemed legit and I did check the serials before purchasing. After a few days, I had noticed enoughred flags that I took them to an Apple Store where I was promptly told they were fake. After a few unanswered texts to the seller, I threatened to file a police report if she didn't return my money. When she called, I pretended to believe her excuse that someone had given the earphones to her as a gift, and got my money back in an amicable way.

The red flags were the following:

- buyer had 2 (likely many more!)

- serials checked out but warranty had started months ago

- both boxes had the same serial (I missed this as the apple website lets you scan the stickers instead of entering the number manually)

- sound quality was mediacre

- spatialization introduced distorsion and did work

- could not add to "find my" because they had already been added to someone else's account (big one!)

- seller went to her car to get the boxes

- font on the inside of the case is subtly different (only noticeable when compared side to side)

- switching between devices did not work (had to unpair and repair each time)

- ad was still up after sale (seller probably had plenty more)

Anyway, they were really good knockoffs, and it makes me realize that if they can do that with a $250 product, they are also definitely doing it for the more expensive ones. I wonder how many bad reviews of fake products there are out there... Beware! I hope my story helps others.

I’m looking for a pair that are comfortable on the ears, have a comfortable band, and that preferably could interchange from being Bluetooth, to being wired and connected to an iPhone. I’m not a tech buff, just looking to treat myself to something nice, does anyone have any recommendations?

Just got my Q5k yesterday and was doing some listening thought BT when I noticed something different about my audiobook that I usually listen too. The recording sounds more spacious and less intimate, like there is a reverb / echo that wasn't there before and he's recording further from the mic.

I sort of noticed this when demoing music, but it was very apparent when I listened to the audiobook. I plugged my headphones back into my Atom stack and the effect was gone, then I tried the Q5k while wired with usb and it was also normal.

I expected BT to compress the signal a bit, not add characteristics to the sound, is this something common that I'm noticing? Maybe it's the MK3's making it easier to hear the difference.

Also, the rest of us need to actually go into the stickied thread and answer questions, so that people aren't so tempted to break rule #2.

Also, MODS NEED TO ENFORCE THEIR OWN RULES.

Hi all - I am looking for a pair of headphones that has pretty decent ANC. I owned the Sony WH-1000XM4 for a few days, and they were AMAZING, but due to my jaw issues, it caused terrible pain.

The Sennheiser I am currently using is legit the only headphone pair that hasn't caused me pain. It is an older model of the HD1 (wired), so it doesn't have ACN, but they are so comfy.

I have heard incredibly mixed reviews about the Momentum 4s and even Momentum 3s. I don't need them to be the best headphones I will ever own, but I do want them to be pretty darn good at noise cancelling, since I take my work to louder coffee shops/classrooms a lot.

I currently use the Sony WF-1000XM3 earbuds and they do work pretty well (and are comfortable to wear), but I have noticed they don't cancel out as much as I want them to.

Again, I am mainly looking at Sennys because they seem to be the most comfortable for my jaw. I am willing to try other types of headphones, but I would need to go to a physical store and try them on for a bit.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hey guys! So I’m in the market to buy my first ever pair of headphones (that aren’t gaming ones) bc I’m tired of earbuds and have piercings lol

I’ve been reading and reading on the basic I suppose “consumer” ones and have no idea which to purchase.

Atm I’m stuck primarily between Sony XM5 and Apple AirPod max. I’ve also read some reviews of Bose Ultra and QC45 + momentum 4. Price isn’t a huge issue. Just preferably not more than the AirPods (550/600+)

All I use atm are AirPod pros, I have a gaming headset already for my pc and utilize Apple products. Reason I haven’t solidly chosen Apple is because my friend is pushing me to get the wxm5

Any insight would be really appreciated!

I really want to get one since 11/11 has good d eals on them, but I’m not sure if I need one.

For those of you who have one, what DAP do you use? Do you think it’s worth it?

I’m not going to buy one for purported claims of better sound quality or whatever; it would mainly be a convenience thing / separating out my phone from vs my music (like a dedicated iPod).

I scoured the internet for some kind of answer to my indecisiveness on whether I should get the xm5s or the galaxy buds 2 pro

I ended up getting the Xm5s... and tbh they're great.

My biggest worry was that I was afraid that they were going to sound like ass because my apple beats pro 2 sounded like complete dog doo doo

And everything I read from redditors was like "nah they're not the best, they sound bad compared to this or that" and it just fueled my indecisiveness

The xm5s blow the apple beats pro 2 out of the water and I'm really really happy with my choice. I'm not super into audiophile so I don't care as long as they sound good

With the right fit earbuds and the ANC I can watch lecture videos and completely focus on school in a pretty busy environment

When I listen to music they sound just as good as my wired headphone and with the ANC it's even better because I just hear the music.

So I guess this is for any other indecisive people out there who find it hard to pick between products. Just pick one, you can always return it in the end if you don't like it, if you're just a casual listener like me that doesn't care too much about the small things about sound, the sound will probably sound just fine for the average person.

Just don't get the apple beats pro, they're actually truly bad and left an actual bad impression on wireless listening for me.

I have a budget of £50 - £100 and i just want a decent one that will last me a while, any thoughts?

Title says it, DT700 out of the box working only left side. I checked all connections and did some research, apparently it's not that rare (shame on Beyerdynamic quality control).

But I tapped the right cup and it immediately started working. I doubt that's a permanent fix and I'd like to return it and get a new one, but I can't really prove that anything is wrong with it. What to do?

After a few years away. I am thrilled to discover AutoEQ, bought SoundSource, and got the ball rolling.

The problem is the profiles based on Crinacle's charts. They all sound excessively bright, vocals sound distant and the bass is neutered. I tested it with everything I have on hand and nothing sounds remotely usable. Male vocals sound like an Eunuch and female vocals sound like someone whispering across the street.

I downloaded the Reveal plugin and it is amazing. Unfortunately, it's only for Audeze phones. Crinacle has got the most profiles and is great when I want to test new things.

Am I doing it wrong? Do you use the Crinacle profiles?

I've seen people state both that they so not influence the tuning as long as they deliver the same power and others stating that they can make headphones "sound warmer" or "brighter". I don't see how that would happen though and a lot of audiophiles just hear things that I feel aren't there, like some noise difference between the Apple DAC Dongle and a 500 EUR DAC using an off the rack chip.

Take this comment from ASR:

Amps are more likely to make an audible difference than most DACs, but that certainly doesn't mean there are audible differences between most amps

I'm talking purely about AMPs here, not a DAC combination.

Hello headphone audiophile people! I want to get my hardworking husband a nice gift this Christmas and he has complained about his ATH-M50x starting to fall apart for quite some time. I have read a lot and it seems these are very very good but I am sure there are better out there.

He records music occasionally and uses them for that. The cord feature is still desirable because I think he will believe the sound is better and this is only for at home listening anyways. I think noise cancelling would be cool since we have a 2 year old but not a necessity. He mostly listens to music and games with them - loves classical, metal, and punk music. Comfort is also important for long days working on the computer.

I am happy to spend 200 euros ++ if it means a better experience for him. Any ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hello,

I have been checking for some time to up my headphone game to the HD series (I currently own an HD599). Now there is a 30% discount that I found for HD660S2 which makes it around 450$. To make a comparison, HD600 V2 can be bought for the same price as well. It can go around -10$ for V1 too.

So my question is; is it worth it? There are 2 aspects for this question though, one is the worth considering the price and the other is the worth considering the sound signature; how it fits my taste. For this second aspect, I will try to explain the profile I like and hopefully you experienced people can help me out in my search.

As I said, I use HD599 as an open-back, use the oratory EQ for it and a little additional decrease for upper mid to lower treble range (I am sensitive to high treble so even this warm headphone can cause disturbance for some songs). Additionally, I have a Focal Bathys which I use for commute, travel etc. There is not much needed for this headphone to me. I just increase the mid range a little. As a side note, I started to thing these Focals are on par, if not better than HD599, am I going crazy?

Anyways, so as you see I like warmer headphones with crystal clear mids. High treble is a pain for me, I tried Sony WH-XM5's and had to return it. Not just because of the treble but that's another discussion. For the bass, I don't have much experience of high quality bass although I tried Momentum 4's and for me their bass was spectacular. Probably the best I've heard in a headphone. I would love a deep bass but I wouldn't want it to be muddy which would mask the lower mids.

So do you think HD660S2 is a good choice for me? Thanks in advance
