I recently bought a pair of DT700 Pro X thinking they would be a substantial improvement over my 2008 ATH-M40fs but I was kind of disappointed. They sound like crap to my ears without EQ (boomy, underwater, muffled). Then I came back to my old pair, also thought they sounded like crap without EQ (harsh, absent bass). I took the time to EQ the DT 700, then took some more time to EQ again the M40fs, and the DT 700 is not much of an improvement, not for the price paid. They sound decently good with an EQ, have a little bit better imaging, separation, soundstage, comfort etc. but I expected better stock sound for the price.

Maybe my expectations are unrealistic and I should up my budget a bit and get closer to real hifi instead of staying in the mid-fi class?

So, I've had the Beyerdynamic DT177x's since earlier this year and I have to say, I think these headphones are so underrated. They are bassy neutral headphones, but seriously sound good for every genre and can be ran off anything. I've tested it with smaller devices like the 3ds and psvita, and I've never heard such good sound come out of those devices. I think they sound best with rap, or hype music (A lot of songs they make sound hype.) These are very energetic headphones. However they are good with any genre. They have such a wide soundstage. The soundstage wraps around your head, and has decent width to it. I believe they have a U-shaped sound signature, really focusing on bass and midrange. They don’t sound like they have that much treble to my ears. I would say the mid range takes half a step back from something like a 6xx while having tons of bass and a pleasing high end. I have 6xx’s, hd660s1 and recently got the Hifiman Ananda Stealths. If you guys have any questions I’m happy to answer.

I have a Soundblaster G6 and recently got a pair of HD800s (Moved from HD600) and am trying to understand if I use an adapter(I've found one on Amazon made by VCE) to turn the 6.35mm into a 3.5mm plug, if this adapter will cause a loss in sound quality?

I'm going to look at a proper DAC/AMP combination for the future(which will naturally support the 6.35mm and 4.4mm cables) but in the interim my G6 will have to do as it's suited my use case for the last few years.

If there are any suggestions for decent adapters if they do influence sound quality that would be great. Thanks in advance.

I was looking at these because I like the looks and the price was quite cheap as well as good reviews. I was trying to get something that is safe in terms of ER. I was thinking that maybe wireless would be safer in terms of ER which by themselves they are but upon further research I found that that would mean putting my phone in my pocket where my pirvate parts are at risk. I was thinking outting an insulator say a rubber wallet in between my skin and phone but I am not sure it will do anything so it might be better to just get a wireless and keep my phone in my bag, but then there isn’t much research into bluetooth health and safety risks so what they are saying is fine now might change in 5 years time and say that oops, sorry guys we discovered that bluetooth devices emitted an unusual frequency that will give you brain cancer in 20 years time. Any help?

the DT 770 Pro 80 ohm does sound noticably different from my Hyperx Cloud 2 wireless i been using for some time. Though i fear i may get used to the DT 770 and hear sound from it may just blend in like any other headset, time will tell i guess.

but i have the DT 770 plugged into my pc's motherboard's Audio port, volume sit no louder then 30/100, so as a first headset like this for me, it seems to be good so far, only been testing it on music, sounds pretty nice (sounds better when listening to music outside of youtube (this case, the music you can buy from Baldur's gate 3, pretty nice)

seems to sound pretty nice in video games too. just got to deal with this damn cable being in the way, cuz id know it be in the way for vr

So I, know it can just be the tuning, but I feel like something is off.. maybe.. I try to compare the left and right channel as you can do, but I can't clearly tell one is lower. But just comparing the overall feeling of them, to my JBL 210's, I do suspect there might be something. Like I get more sound overall. And enough to throw it off.

And I was just wondering if someone maybe heard a difference (and I mean that can be down to the day, and circumstances and so many factors but..), just thought I could ask.

And the model in question is the E5000, and I am powering it off Topping NX4SD and have tried using it with the gain lever engaged.

Almost a carbon copy of the Momentum 4 design too. Someone needs to press the reset button at Bose. They used to be respected but I haven't seen anything good said about these cans yet and if this their advertising, then it is what is.

I just got the H3 Hybrid as my Astros are getting older and more worn down. From everything I’ve looked at online the Hybrids should have better sound quality, and are praised for it for the most part. However, no matter what I do, and even with surround sound and EQ, I still feel as if they sound hollow while my Astros sound so much fuller and better in comparison. Am I going insane or are the Astros just better?

I bought a pair of SalNotes Zero IEMs a while ago, but the left ear one doesn't work well anymore. The audio volume is much lower than before. Where can I get it fixed? I got no warranty but I'm willing to pay to get them fixed as long as it's reasonable. Also, I apologise if this is the wrong place to ask, but I got no idea where to ask and this is the best one.

Title kind of explains it. My HD6XX sound incredible but the sound goes all over when I really turn it up. What does the community recommend for this situation? I'm driving them with a modi/magni stack if that helps. Thanks y'all.

I'm replacing my old headphone with something that I think is more on the luxurious side. What's very nice about this headphone is that it has a lot of reverb and is decent at blocking out outside noises. However, I expected a full-on sphere of sound surrounding my head. Instead, I feel like only 60% of the space is filled, and it's not as loud as I thought it would be. And by the volume, I do not mean so quiet that it's background level noise. It's just a bit under, even compared to my old headphone.

As stated in the title, I have the 250 ohm version, and I do not have an amp. The headphone is plugged straight into my PC.

I bought the 250 ohm version because people said it sounds better and is overall more professional. Today after some more research I realized that an amp is "required"? I only want a high-quality headphone that I can enjoy listening to Spotify.

Of course, I can just turn up the computer sound output volume, but I'm not sure if that's the "incorrect" way of addressing this. I'd love to get the most out of this headphone. If there are any related software or drivers, I'd be happy to download them.

Edit: Also, another weird thing I noticed is that when I download music and play them on Windows Media Player, the volume is fine (0db). The problem is if I play YouTube videos (even the same song) or Spotify with in-app volume cranked to max, it's only at about negative6db.

Hi, any info greatly appreciated! I’m considering getting Beyerdynamic DT700 pro X and a DAC amp and need to know two things.

  1. Can a DAC amp increase the volume of headphones to say 150% what an iPhone would pump out?

  2. Can headphones handle being driven that loud?

🙏

I've been a huge fan of Moondrop for many years I own quite a few of their cheaper models as well as the Blessing 2: Dusk and S8. The S8 is my go-to daily driver and sleep IEM. In both sound profile and comfort it is very satisfying.

If I wanted to improve it, I'd smooth the treble and extend it, and take a little off the midbass. So when I saw the Dark Saber FR I thought those might be a good upgrade. Or side-grade.

When they arrived, my first disappointment was that they were not solid resin like the S8. Instead, they are a resin shell so thin it almost rings when you touch it.

My second disappointment was that the IEM bodies were not the semi-custom shape of the S8 but fatter and bigger like the B2:D. Along with this, the carbon fiber faceplates have extremely sharp edges. They won't cut your skin but the lower point of the plate does feel uncomfortably sharp to an accidental touch.

The size is not a total deal breaker for me but combined with the sharp edges I almost decided to return them right away. But I gave them a listen.

After about 50hrs the sound was quite nice. Very refined treble with huge extension giving it lots of detail and a big sound stage. Midrange is somewhat reduced that makes vocals a little distant. Similar to the B2:D. But the bass... Two dynamic drivers and a good FR should give great bass, but mine was anemic. It has detail and extension but it just lacks overall thump and impact. The single BA bass driver in the S8 is superior IMO.

Now for the objective flaws: the 2-pin connection on the right IEM is so tight I thought it would break inserting it. I did manage to attach and then remove the cable that came with it, and then the same for a DUNU cable. I've seen other comments about this issue and would say it seems to be widespread.

But at the same time I noticed a fracture along the back of the right hand unit. I have a DUNU SA6 with a hollow shell body that doesn't crack under normal use. I managed to remove the cable without breaking it further and last week sent Apos an email to request a return and refund. Today I got my return label and it looks like they are taking care of it.

Maybe steer clear of this one for a while.

Basically the headline- i stupidly grabbed my bedsheets and hauled them into my washing machine for a quick wash cycle, forgetting that my headphones were tucked in there. It wasn’t til i was switching everything into the dryer that I realized what happened.

My second stupid mistake was trying to turn them on right after, the power light flickered on but then turned off. I decided to just leave them alone and let them fully dry.

Their current state is that that they feel slightly moist but not dripping wet. This all happened less than 24 hours ago.

Is their any hope for them? Can they be saved? I’m so heartbroken and angry at myself. I’ve only owned these for a month since I received them as a birthday present last month. Please help!

I have a setup which is Laptop/PS4 -> Topping E30 -> Schiit Asgard 2 -> Beyer DT990. And, when the volume on the Asgard goes to a third or more, there’s a buzz. Is there something obvious I can do to track it down?

My challenge is that I have a lot of electronic kit in the vicinity- it’s my home working location, so there’s a lot of stuff plugged in like two monitors, a printer etc. For practical reasons it needs to stay, but is there something I can do to easily eliminate the buzz? Not an expert, but it doesn’t sound like a 50Hz mains hum you’d get in the UK.
