Hi everyone,

I recently released my app on Appstore which allows you to lock your favorite apps using biometrics and a passcode. While there are some workarounds using the built-in shortcuts app, they don't provide a good user experience since they either show a custom input alert asking for password or they direct you to lock screen.

With Oltalox, you can use the same secure Touch ID and Face ID to protect your app. This is handy to prevent any snooping from siblings while the device is still unlocked.

Here is the appstore link:

Hi everyone, in my job I deal with offshore manufacturing (China). Sometimes communications between me and the vendors break down because the way we word our messages is not conducive to translation. I've received some very strangely worded English messages from Chinese vendors, indicating they ran their Chinese words through a translator before sending. Also some of my messages have been misunderstood by vendors, indicating the translated message was significantly different from what I meant to say.

To help verify my messages, I built echolingo.com, a web app that translates text into a destination language, then re-translates ('echoes') the translated text back into my own language, so that I can easily confirm that I really said what I intended.

It's basically a user interface to the AWS Translate API, but even so it makes the task easier than copying and pasting into Google Translate, which is fairly cumbersome if I'm tweaking a message multiple times until it sounds right.

I thought about using a self-hosted copy of the LibreTranslate API, but for a weekend build it was faster to utilize AWS's existing Translate API. If operating costs become prohibitive, I may switch later.

Currently monetization is via donations only, but if I can get some decent traffic, it may be profitable to run some tasteful ads for related content, such as DuoLingo. Any suggestions on monetization are welcome.

I'd be very grateful for your feedback, as well as ideas for publishing the app so that it can be found by people who could benefit.

I'm thinking of creating a new SNS platform. The keyword is 'Immutable'. Consider, for example, the following JSON file:

json

{
  "id": "page1",
  "ref": "cid",
  "profile": {
    "identifier": "user123",
    "username": "username",
    "image": "resource1" // Reference to a base64 encoded image in the resources section
  },
  "content": "<p>This is a test page</p>",
  "resources": {
    "resource1": "data:image/jpeg;base64,/9j/4AAQSkZJRgABAQAAAQABAAD..." // Base64 encoded image
    // ... other resources
  }
}

This alone can handle all the information necessary for a post. In other words, it all comes down to just exchanging JSON files. This would enable it to be hosted on a distributed storage system like IPFS.

Hey folks,

Seeking help from those who have implemented your AI projects. Did you implement it yourself or hire or outsource? Also please share to find the right fit..

- I tried outsourcing earlier through a friend’s recommendation and it did not work out well.

- Tried building my own as well which took enormous effort and is still incomplete.

- Never hired anyone…

I am really looking for a positive outcome this time. Appreciate your response.

Hello fellow hustlers,

I always check the posts in r/SideProject. I'm looking for innovative ideas or interesting projects you guys are working on.

But most of the time I get disappointed reading the title or the post. Not many details, no emphasis on the title, or just posting the link to your website. These won't work if you're trying to get some attention around your project.

I understand some of you are just trying to get a backlink from Reddit, but you can use Reddit for more. Last week I posted about how I made XXXX amount of money from my 1st client, that post hit 18.7k views.

I analyzed the post and what I did differently that attracted a bunch of viewers. Here's what I wrote about 👇

  • The title attracted the viewers to click on the post. In my title, I showed the amount, how I acquired my first client and what are the services that I'm providing. Also, how you can achieve that?

You can see a trailer/teaser from the title and you want to know more. Obviously never lie or trick the users, you'll lose your credibility.

  • In the post, I started with what I do, and what are my experiences, when I launched my design subscription business.

You're trying to promote your service/software, as a viewer I always want to know who you are, what you do, and what are your experiences, these build credibility.

  • Then I wrote about what are the methods I tried to acquire clients, what type of content I posted on each social media, which content worked, what did not work, and which social platform worked for me.

These are values I'm sharing with my viewers. They can try what worked for me.

  • I also shared what are the methods I'll try next.

This shows I'm not stopping here, I'll continue to dig.

  • In the end, I kept open questions to my viewers, what worked for them or what methods should I try next?

Now they feel eager to reply in a comment. It's building engagement with the post.

  • In between or at the end of the post I shared my design subscription business Pentaclay.

Why? Because if they read at the end of the post that means they are finding value from the post, they're trusting me somehow, now is the time I can post about my product.

Now tell me when was the last time you tried to engage with your viewers like this? Or have you ever tried to write engaging posts? I would love to hear from you guys! 👇

Thank you.

Inspired by the success of other unlimited services such as DesignJoy (and others, but seems to be a design heavy space) I’m thinking about spinning up an iteration around digital marketing.

The Idea

For a simple online subscription (ballpark $2k per month), we’ll manage your digital marketing campaigns, iterate and optimize your ads and targeting to whatever your targets may be (a certain cost per action, profitability, growth at all costs, etc), send you detailed weekly reports, and engage with you via Slack as needed.

How is this different from an agency?

Great question, not sure. I imagine this being much more execution focused than agencies, where they’re focused on changing everything with big new strategies, I’d just execute and drive results fasts. Ideally no meetings past sign up, which just bogs down everyone’s time. Also no sales pitch when you want to leave, pause or cancel your subscription as you wish.

A big difference would also be scope creep. Agencies love that word because it means they get to charge extra (if they’re paying attention), I would not. It would be more so a priority list but feel free to add anything on it.

Let me know what you think of this idea, good AND bad feedback welcome.

For context, I have about 7-8 years of digital marketing experience, managing hundreds of ad campaigns simultaneously, about half of that at a Fortune 500 company.

Hey everyone,

I've noticed the struggle of sharing event details through Instagram pages—it can be a real challenge for attendees to navigate. To simplify this process, I'm working on a platform that empowers event organizers.

Event organizers can effortlessly add all their event details onto our platform. No more hassle with Instagram's layout limitations.

Automated Event Pages:
Our platform takes care of the rest. It automatically generates a dedicated event page, presenting all the information in a clean and consumable format. This includes:

  • About Section
  • Guidelines/Rules
  • Eye-catching Images/Posters
  • Integrated Google Map
  • Guests/Lineup Details

Easy Sharing:
The generated link can be seamlessly shared in an Instagram bio or within chat groups, making it convenient for both organizers and attendees.

Question for You: Do you think this solution would be beneficial for local organizers and event planners?

Hey fellow tech enthusiasts! 🌐

I've been brainstorming an idea that I believe could revolutionize the way we explore and engage with tech products. Picture this – a dedicated platform for short, snappy tech product reviews, each lasting 20 seconds to 1 minute, capturing the essence of the product and helping you make informed buying decisions quickly. 🎥💡

Key Features:

  • Bite-sized video reviews 🍔🎥
  • Visual demonstrations of tech products 👀🛠️
  • Community engagement 🤝💬

Why am I excited about this?
Imagine a TikTok-like app exclusively tailored for tech enthusiasts. You get to see the latest gadgets in action, learn about their features, and make decisions on the go. It's not just about the products; it's about building a community of tech lovers sharing insights and experiences. 🌐🚀

How does it work?
Users and tech enthusiasts, like you and me, will create and share these short videos. Whether you're a seasoned tech reviewer or just passionate about the latest gadgets, your voice matters! 🗣️👨‍💻

I want your thoughts!
Before diving headfirst into this project, I'd love to hear what you think. Is this something you'd be interested in? What features would you like to see? Any concerns or suggestions? Let's have an open discussion, and together, we can shape the future of tech product exploration! 🤔💡

Looking forward to hearing your thoughts, critiques, and ideas! 🚀👂

Hey Everyone!

Recently, my logo design tool, Typogram, hit 1k registered users.

It's a big milestone for us since we are a two-person bootstrapped company with no money and mostly do organic marketing. A short time ago, we wrote a guide on what worked for us. IH has been such a helpful community. I want to share it here in case other makers find this useful. If you want more details, see the stats, feel free to check out the original post.

Background

Before we start, I would like to give you some background about my product. Typogram is a beginner friendly logo design tool for founders. Here is the timeline for Typogram's development for reference. I think a key takeaway here is that we started launching, and tried to start developing an audience before we had a full fledged product.

  • 2021– Focus on customer discovery, product research, and content development, mini product launches
  • 2022– Launch of a pre-order landing page.
  • 2023– Public alpha launch.

For MVP and Product Validation, we tried:

  • Create Mini Product of Features Using No-Code
    We use no-code products to create mini versions of core features to test monetization. Some of the no-code tools we used: Notion, Figma, Webflow. Launch Channels: our newsletters, Twitter, IndieHackers, and product hunt.
  • Pre-Order with Landing Page
    We launched a pre-order in March 2022. At this point, the SaaS has yet to be fully developed, only the key features. We created a landing page with a demo video, offering a discounted lifetime deal on our SaaS. We wanted to test interest and monetization. Launch Channels: our newsletters, Twitter, IndieHackers, and Product Hunt

For short-term growth & traction, we tried:

Short-Term Growth & Traction

Content marketing and engineering as marketing were successful strategies. Sharing learnings and snippets of our newsletters on Reddit

  • Newsletter
    We started newsletters before having a product to build a community and find supporters. We mostly shared our startup journey and researched user interests for newsletter topics.
  • Engineering as Marketing
    We launched side projects like "Coding Font" to attract their target audience. These projects generated traffic, backlinks, and SEO benefits.

Long-Term Growth: SEO/Organic Traffic

Targeting long-tail keywords works well

Ads and Future Launch Channels:

We didn't invest in ads due to budget constraints. We are launching again soon. A new channel we are exploring this time: Lifetime Deals (LTD) Facebook groups. Subscribe to our newsletter to get updated learning on this!

Last Words: SaaS marketing is hard, but it is possible without money. If you feel like it, check out our logo design tool, Typogram.

Hey Everyone! I'm building a cool new product that might be relevant to this community.

Oasis is a dynamic digital repository of project ideas. It’s a platform where people with interesting project ideas can share them effectively with others who are looking to build. It doesn’t matter what domain the project idea is from (startups, research, NGOs, physical products, or even video games); all that matters is that it is a clear actionable project idea.

If you find yourself thinking, “This is such a great idea; someone should do it”, put it out on our platform; through our filtering systems, we’ll make sure it reaches a pool of people who will likely be excited to pursue it.

Intrigued? Learn more or sign up for our waitlist at www.oasis-of-ideas.github.io

Doubt it? I'd love to hear from you; tell me why you're hesitant!

Currently I've been working on a new side-project to offer my front-end development services as a subscription. The main goal is to help development team that want to focus on backend or functionality, while we bring all the UI elements fully-coded and ready to be implemented.

The project is called Webpixels Studio and it is part of the already known Webpixels platform (a dedicated space for all-things Bootstrap).

studio.webpixels.io - Front-end development studio specialized in crafting custom, production-ready and fully-coded designs based on Bootstrap, all built by experts ready for your developer, specially crafted for your needs. NO Figma, NO design files. Just ready-to-use designs coded with the latest version of Bootstrap.

I just launched the website, and I would love to know what you think. More stuff will be released soon...

It's been an incredible journey since I first launched RambleFix.com here five months ago, and I'm excited to share some updates and milestones with this amazing community.

Quick Recap: RambleFix is a website designed for note-taking and content creation, simplifies the process of transforming spoken words into structured text. Ideal for those who prefer verbalizing ideas, it employs AI to neatly organize and convert these thoughts into written form. Whether for brainstorming, blogging, or capturing quick ideas, RambleFix offers an efficient way to turn spoken input into clear text.

The Journey So Far: In these past months, the response has been nothing short of inspiring. RambleFix has been used over 8,500 times and we now have a community of over 1,200 registered users. What's more exciting is seeing how the tool is being integrated into people's daily workflows and creative processes.

Stats and Growth: The growth has been steady and encouraging. We've hit up to $200 in Monthly Recurring Revenue (MRR), with most users preferring the annual option. This not only shows the tool's value but also the trust users have in its long-term utility.

The Story Behind the Stats: When I first shared RambleFix here, it was a concept born out of personal need and curiosity. The subsequent engagement, feedback, and stories from users have been the driving force behind continuous improvements and features. Each statistic represents a story of someone finding value in what was once just an idea.

As RambleFix continues to grow, I'm committed to making it even more intuitive and powerful. I'm grateful to this community for the initial support, and I'd love to hear more about how you've been using RambleFix, any success stories, or suggestions for future updates.

Thank you for being a part of this journey!

FINALLY! <3

I know for most of you, it is quite normal and something okay, and even for me as well, I have a bigger goal with this SaaS product as well.

I have been building SubtitleO since June, and it took a very long time for me because of some initial issues with the developers, new things in the market, etc. But I sorted that out by building a very strong team with people I can trust and who can go a long way with me.

Getting the first 5 customers is a really great validation that tells me that I am on the right track with this project.

I was nervous because we started getting 1000+ free users signed up to our platform but the conversion rate was low.

The reason that I have found is:

not having a clear idea of what they are getting in the paid plan not having added bonuses of features in the pro plan

And we are working on it with a super keen interest now. Hopefully, we are going to see a good amount of conversion rate because all the feedback that we have got till now is not just good, but it is GREAT!

The things that we have done till now with SubtitleO for marketing:

SEO blogs

Email marketing to the free users

Listings on AI websites

Creating shorts for social media

Linkedin outreach

Google Ads

Facebook Ads (turned off because of super high CPC)

We will need to focus more on content marketing and social media content as our target audience is waiting for us there.

Did I miss anything? Please ask me in the comments and I will be happy to talk about it. Have suggestions? Please have a talk.

Hey everyone

Diving into the SaaS world, I crafted NoteSLAYER, a note and task management app, with a Linux-first mindset. Yet, I've noticed it's gaining more traction with Windows users. This observation has sparked my curiosity about the preferences of the Linux community.

Are open-source solutions the unwritten standard for Linux, potentially influencing the uptake of proprietary software? For those who've launched SaaS & apps on Linux, what's been your experience in engaging the community with non-open-source products?

I Would love to hear your thoughts and insights on this!

I decided to offer something last minute this weekend but was too late to post to any BF deal 'directory'.

Thought it would be a good opportunity to share here and allow others to do the same.

Share below with a brief description of your service.
