KD continuing the trend of players getting annoyed with being spammed by sports bettors when their parlays don't hit. I doubt it'll stop anytime soon with the league continuing to expand it's connections with sports gambling

I have no qualms about the legality or morality of sports betting itself.

However, sports media getting more and more sports betting-centric over the last few years has been so fucking annoying.

I think the constant ads are awful. Sports are marketed towards kids and do we really want kids constantly being slammed with gambling ads when we know it’s addictive?

Try live in Lithuania where every other sports team and league has some betting company baked into their names

This gambling shit is a plague. People don’t even watch sports anymore, any time I overhear coworkers talking about sports, it’s always centered around betting and “fuck this player, he messed up my parlay”

[–] polymorph505@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

You should have qualms about it. The dopamine hit from skinner boxes is the same hit keeping people addicted to their phones and social media.

[–] thebranbran@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Really hope they eventually realize how much it hurts the overall brand and real it back but I doubt it. Gambling is fine but it shouldn’t be promoted the way it has been. Makes people think it’s okay to act like an asshole

You cant turn on anything without hearing the line.

I am in to sports betting and it annoys the shit out of me.

I was always amazed at how much of the economy was propped up by advertising revenue. I am downright bamboozled by how much modern advertising revenue are gambling related.

[–] ObscureLegacy@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s strange as a Brit watching this because we’re literally doing the opposite

It's almost as if we should have some qualms

[–] Jimi_The_Cynic@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have a huge problem with the legality lol. It's a market setup to be fraudulent that can encourage behavior that isn't "playing the best basketball you can" or as we've seen "reffing the game accurately"

Furthermore they're predatory in their design. Like 1% or less are consistent winners on these programs and they're stats nerds. Everyone else is getting fucked to pay the company and the stats nerds.

I love gambling, don't get me wrong, but sports gambling in particular ruins the fucking game and takes advantage of people who don't really understand the gamble.

People talk more about sports betting than they do small market teams! And I get that’s what people want to hear but it still sucks

[–] Sportsfan369@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Same boat as you. I enjoy watching nba but I don’t bet and I don’t mind if people do but the constant coverage, and commercials talking about over and under is annoying.

[–] santodomingus@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It’s everywhere… and it makes me question the legitimacy of games and officiating more. It’s unfortunate.

Heavy sports betters are addicted. The media capitalized on their addiction by providing content for them to view. A small group of people NBA addicts consume more content than the majority of the audience. That small group will be catered too because it pays.

I had the pregame on for SNF last night and they just casually break into a segment about specific in game bets.

This shit is really going to fuck people up.

[–] Fallofmen10@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I have qualms about the morality of sports betting and I find it fucking annoying.... But to be honest my hatred of gambling has me consuming less sports media content in general and just watching games. It's super nice

[–] Bext@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

It's precisely why I don't think it should be legal. It's pernicious and invades everything eventually. The money's too good now to roll it back though. In a sense the NBA itself is just as much of a gambling addict as the people who rage at players on twitter.

[–] Dino_FGO8020@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

I get so annoyed whenever I look at twitter and things trending like: (9 AST, 11 REBS, or some NBA player who underperformed on a certain stat or just in general usually revolving with sports betting), it pisses me off like these people aren't even here to enjoy the game.

[–] Pretty_Bowler2297@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

Not only annoying but morally questionable. Gambling always corrupts the integrity of whatever it touches. Like the NBA didn’t have questionable integrity before all of this already.

Adam Silver allowing this told me everything I needed to know about his mindset as commissioner.

[–] Technical_Raise4447@alien.top 1 points 1 year ago

first it was fantasy. now it's gambling. and social media is just full of people who know what players eat for dinner.

sports commentary is dead.
