Gambling has always been an issue but there's going to be a gambling addiction epidemic in the next decade. The high school kids I coach, who aren't even of age to gamble, are already putting way too money on sports games. I try to make them see that it isn't a good idea, but they're in it already. It's a plague.

Sports betting is a cancer to actual sports performance. It's fine if you do it but nobody who doesn't bet gives a shit about it, especially the players.

Also, prop bets are basically Goodhart's Law in action. Why would a coach care if one of his players has a low statistical night if they can get the win a different way.

This is why we can't have nice things. If you want to bet be my guest, I would even dabble from time to time if it was legal where I am. But the fact the it's infested coverage of sports sucks, and the fact that people will abuse players when things don't hit, as if their obligation is to get you paid instead of help their team win, is just ridiculous.
