Why would this even be present in a street legal vehicle?
Same reason Jeeps have more ground clearance and suspension travel than they need to operate on public roads. Some people use their vehicles for both transportation and recreation.

I sometimes wonder why the US even has a government.
Incidentally that’s a German car that’s sold worldwide with that feature. Japanese, American, Chinese, British and other cars have that feature too.
