The UK actually was at one point, in the process of handing over administration to Argentina. The population petitioned parliament to stop it.
While I’m never going to accept that the Brits are over their horrific colonial past and have zero interest in The Falklands, there is a pretty strong moral argument from the indigenous population not wanting to become part of Argentina.
There‘s a bitter sense of irony here.
