Maybe I need to watch it again. I was so excited to see it but had almost no impact on me. I didn't think it was bad by any means, but it's just like there was some emotional or thematic hook that missed me somehow. It goes without saying that the animation was beautiful, though.

I'm with you, the first half hour were brilliant but the rest of the movie kinda fell flat. It was a lot of going to random places to get random macguffin pieces they need to solve the plot. I'm hopeful Wildwood will have better writing.

Likely, I feel, considering it was literature first. Recent, even.

FWIW, re: Kubo, the animation itself was the shining focus, the story was glitter. ☝🏼
