/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I read one of his scifi novels. It was very bad. But I didnt expect anything differnt tbh.

I read the first couple TekWar books. The first one isn't that bad. Lots of good ideas but if I remember correctly the second book was just dull and I never finished it. Probably would be a good audiobook, maybe...

William Shatner reading any book as Kirk would be +1.

[–] blazeknave@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

As who? That's just the real him, on screen lol

Sure was, complete with poorly captured footage like in Command and Conquer.

[–] PlaidBaron@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

It was one of the TekWar books but I have no idea which. I just know it was very badly written.

Actors arent inherently writers, its not really surprising or shameful to me.

I love Paul Darrow as Avon, but I've heard some pretty dismal things about the novel he wrote for his character's family. And that's okay, I'm not gonna knock him for trying. Same with Shatner.

It was amateur but readable so I wouldn't say it was badly written. Someone probably had a hard time being his editor and staying objective

Well the kids have to learn about Tek War sooner or later

He had an album, I don’t even remember the type of music. I think it had a lot of spoken word so maybe it was jazz. It was in 90s, I was high.

[–] marsupial9272@quokk.au 14 points 6 days ago

He has a few albums. One from 1969, “The Transformed Man” and “Has Been” from 2009ish. I have both. The latter really is good with an excellent cover of Pulp’s “Common People”. A newer metal album from a few years ago I haven’t heard.

Star Trek V and his run of Star Trek novels are the original NuTrek.

[–] alekwithak@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Aw I liked V, I think a lot of its issues were caused by the studio. "What does God need with a ship?" is easily the most Captain Kirk line in all of Trekdom.

[–] Apocalypteroid@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Gonna get a lot of flack here but I liked V more than IV. Yeh, I said it. Who's gonna fight me? :D

No need. I'm one of the few who really enjoys Insurrection... when viewed as a 2-parter episode.

I’m with you. Of all the things they could have done after turning our guys into outlaws, they go with a trip to 1980s Earth? I mean, it’s budget friendly, but a bit of a let down…

[–] AngryishHumanoid@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

I quite enjoyed "The Return". I suspect that was less due to his writing abilities than the 2 other writers...

[–] eestileib@sh.itjust.works 4 points 1 week ago

Yeah it was a drug novel that didn't even make the drug seem cool. 🤷🏻‍♀️
