Rivera did a better job stabilizing behind-the-scenes chaos from Dan Snyder than he did as a Head Coach. Overall I think he’s leaving the organization in a better place than he found it. Hope he retires and rides off into the sunset with a positive overall record when all is said and done.

I always see this but what exactly did he stabilize? We’re in a better spot as an organization because Satan is finally gone (which Ron had nothing to do with) but from a purely football operations standpoint we are in the exact same spot we were in when he took over, if not worse. The only saving grace is we may have found an answer at QB.

That's what I was thinking. Jay Gruden was a stabilizing force when he took over, and he had a reasonable head coaching stretch. He took over at a time when Washington really needed some continuity at a minimum. Rivera's just been more of the same, just with better defenses instead of Gruden's offenses.

Incidentally, I'm surprise Gruden hasn't gotten another shot. I didn't think he did especially poorly as a HC, factoring in he was under Snyder.

When Rivera took over we had no HR department, GM, Team President, and many staff within football operations had to be fired or resigned due to pending scandals or toxic behavior. Rivera had to oversee the overall rebuild of everything on football operations and essentially act as CEO on top of regular HC responsibilities. Jay Gruden was a very lax presence & regularly neutered by Bruce Allen. The team needed discipline and structure which Rivera provided.

It’s really crazy if you think about it considering what we now know about Snyder’s tenure in just the last decade of his ownership.

Redditor speak so they sound educated on the topic. Dude is the HC not the PR team.

I wouldn’t say that because the media and even Ron himself have echoed the same sentiment. I’m just confused where it’s coming from because literally the only reason I have any more hope for this organization now than I did when he took over is Snyder being gone

At 102–97–2 that’s gonna be a close call.

All we have to do is win 2 games

Then why not higher Rivera to just be some PR role, make him the president of the team. Making him the HC just for positive PR is a terrible plan. It just shows that Washington didn’t really care about winning, just saving face
