Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Honestly you seem like a child unable to assess the risks. Sure - the odds of any individual in the US being killed with their own gun is small, but it is dramatically higher than the odds of them defending themselves against an assailant. It's just an unnecessary game of russian roulette. Owning a gun is a hazard that makes people significantly less safe than not owning one.

Nice try ignoring every point I made. Yes, the risk of being killed with your own weapon IS small. Vanishingly small. And yet you certainly are worried about it happening to a stranger online who is at a much higher risk of being murdered than you are, you average milquetoast liberal. I don't think you care about the person on the other end at all. Obviously you're content to ignore the fact that transfolk are assaulted and murdered at wildly higher rates than the average white person. I think you just hate the idea of people using guns to defend themselves.

It's not clear to me what point you are making. If you like to fondle guns, then feel free to. But the reality is that owning a gun makes someone dramatically less safe. That's just a fact.

Yeah, I can easily detect your deliberate refusal to consider the circumstances of others.

[–] Terrorphin@thelemmy.club 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I have considered the circumstances - in every circumstance their risk of dying goes up.

You absolutely have not considered different circumstances. If that was true, you'd cite those numbers instead. But no, you conflated the ones convenient to your prejudice and ignored all the ones that threatened it. Your life is safe enough, for now. Nothing of the sort exists for transfolk, and you don't care.

What circumstances are you talking about? You are being very vague. There is no sub-group who are safer owning guns than not. That is very very clear.

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I cannot imagine being that deliberately obtuse.

[–] Terrorphin@thelemmy.club 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

And yet you are very very obtuse - what are you actually trying to say??

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Who have I been talking about?

[–] Terrorphin@thelemmy.club 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

I have literally no idea - you are vague and all over the place. Perhaps if you just said what you mean instead of making obtuse and vague ramblings it would be easier to follow. Who have you been talking about?

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

What group have I repeatedly mentioned who experience much higher rates of assault and murder than the average white person? Either answer the question or fuck off.

[–] Terrorphin@thelemmy.club 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Again with the vague and obtuse. Instead of answering the question you ramble more. I am not in the market for trying to guess what you are talking about. Either say it or don't, but if you won't then there is literally no point talking to you is there?

[–] Olhonestjim@lemmy.world 1 points 18 hours ago* (last edited 18 hours ago) (1 children)

Transfolk. Say it or fuck off.

[–] Terrorphin@thelemmy.club 0 points 18 hours ago (1 children)

Well done. It wasn't that hard, was it?
