Why do people STILL recommend TPB in 2026? It's shady af.
While I've moved to arr stack and usenet these days, I've literally never had an issue with TPB
I think it's more a generalised phrase, like when you Google something, but you don't actually use Google. Saying to look at / use pirate bay doesn't mean the exact site, just means to pirate it somehow.
Shady how? It ends up being the right place for 99% of my torrents.
Its fine if you know what you are doing. But because anyone can set up a pirate bay mirror at this point, it can be a bit iffy to download stuff from there. I'm in a happy position of being able to use a excellent private tracker, but about once a year I do get something from pirate bay because I cant find it elsewhere. I do feel a bit icky after, but so far, all has been fine. knocks all the wood I can find
Same
I was getting something from TPB and got an email from Nintendo when I forgot to turn on my VPN.
Did Nintendo email you, or did your ISP forward you a DMCA notice?
oh yeah now that I think it was a forward from my ISP about the Nintendo DMCA notice?
Ok, good deal. Those are pretty much toothless. If Nintendo themselves contacted you, I would be very worried.
oh really? cause I was shitting my pants when I first saw it
Yeah that happens. The company issuing the DMCA notice doesn't know who you are, they just log the IP address and send a notice to the ISP, who forwards it to you.
The ISP can absolutely cancel your account if they keep getting notices about your activities though.
I mean that has nothing to do with tpb but just you not force binding vpn adapter to your torrent client
Lol let them email as much as they want. I'm not Gary Bowser.
I've never torrented with a VPN. I guess nobody cares in South Africa
Everytime I look for alternates I end up with sites that offer torrents of movies that end in .exe. so I end up going back to TPB.
Ext.to had been a great source for movies and shows. It's now my first stop.
Been using 1337x for years with no issues
EDIT: Do not go there without ublock tho
Ditto. Kinda miss my private tracker. But, 1337x + VPN works fine for me.
But also be very careful you don't end up on a typosquatter like 1377x. There's many.
As long you downloading only video/music content you are safe. The worst outcome could be only wrong content
I have been out of the 🏴☠️scene for a while and this was the most trusted one back in the days. Are there other alternatives now?
There are dht search tools like rats-search (https://github.com/librats/rats-search) that seams to do p2p searches. But um, be careful since you can find some pretty fucked up shit there.
You can use an aggregator these days like Knaben. Much easier
Thanks
I would recommend 1337 instead. Has pretty much every category like TPB.
But if you are interested in self hosting, check our Arr stack for full automation and jellyfin as media center.
Thanks a lot
Uindex, but it's recent stuff only.
Thanks
Well as shady as a midnight walk to the convenient store... So not actually that bad.
