i understand the charge, but why do media outlets keep posting pictures of the girl? not only is she underaged, but i also feel like it just opens her up to abuse from online trolls/weirdos.

[–] theCANCERbat@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Not to mention giving her first and last name.

[–] chemistrybonanza@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

She's an alleged rape victim and they're posting her info like it's irrelevant. Disgusting.

[–] Uro06@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (4 children)

People really need to stop misusing the term rape

[–] kamekaze1024@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s technically statutory rape, but yeah she’s more likely being groomed

[–] dBlock845@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

statutory rape and forcible rape are different things sure with different levels of punishment, but both are predatory behaviors regardless.

[–] SometimesIComplain@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (3 children)

I do kinda hate how stuff like this has the same term as someone physically forcing themself onto someone else. It's all bad but one is sooo much worse

[–] 0324rayo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (6 children)

It’s not a competition bro both are rape. Minors can’t consent

[–] Kuni_Nino@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

But apparently they can brag about it on social media…

[–] EMateos@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Because kids/teenagers are dumb, immature and have not a fully developed brain. So yes, that only proves the point that they can’t consent.

[–] muhammad_oli@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

side note: your brain doesn’t fully develop until you’re around 25

i was 17 and had sex with my 18 year old girlfriend did i get raped ???

[–] StrongCategory@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bro a comment like this makes it hard to believe you've ever had a sexual experience. Now please don't feel pressured to correct me because I'm also guessing you're a child.

[–] 0324rayo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Do you know what Romeo and Juliet laws are? Did you think you were making a good point?

[–] r8u4@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s not a competition, it’s the idea that physically forcing yourself upon somebody who is explicitly rejecting consent vs being with someone who is of the age that they cannot legally consent all falls under the same legal definition of rape, when one implies more violence than the other. It’s all gross either way

[–] Gauthzu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Minors? Why is the line at 18? An 18 yo fucking a 17 yo is rape no matter what? What about a 17yo fucking another 17yo? Is it double rape because neither can give consent?

[–] MartinLouisTheKing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Someone being held down and forced on against their will isn’t the same thing as some ditzy 17 yr old white girl getting involved with some 20 yr old rich athlete haha

[–] The_Taskmaker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

But the age of consent can vary over literal miles. A person in the US can be legally banging in one spot but if it happened a few miles over the state border then it's now rape... Lumping that in with forceful rape is just wild and diminishes one of the actual worst offenses a human being can commit.

[–] 0324rayo@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No it literally doesn’t because it’s not a competition. Unless the point your making is that an adult having sex with a minor isn’t that bad of a crime, which in that case turn yourself in bro

[–] FuckShitBitch2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It's really not a big deal.

[–] draymond-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

No point discussing nuance about these topics mate.

If you disagree with the crowd they'll just call you a p3do or ragist

[–] GreatWhiteNurse@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

"Statutory rape is nonforcible sexual activity in which one of the individuals is below the age of consent"

[–] The-moo-man@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Age of consent in Australia is as low as 16, so I guess Giddey just messed up by coming to the US.

[–] LockIllustrious4789@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To exploit the freshness of the situation for ratings/clicks.

Most people in media are heartless bastards that will stoop to ridiculous lows to get ahead.

[–] nutsygenius@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

That link literally refers to a tweet with images from 2 different ppl with two different social media handles. They are making it look like they are the same because they are look-a-like, but clearly not. Also, one appears to be older

[–] kaprrisch@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You know why. Because it gets clicks.

[–] pleasedontharassme@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Didn’t she post this stuff herself on the internet? It’s not like someone stole information she had on her private devices and posted them online without her knowing

[–] topofthecc@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Still seems like bad practice to spread around a teenager's information when it isn't at all necessary.

[–] StormSaniWater@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Bruh she posted the photos. Why do we pretend 15 year olds are 2 years old. Yea she’s way too young for Josh but she posted this shit herself. She knows what she’s doing

[–] orange_orange13@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The article says someone else posted it

[–] grooovyturtle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Conversely, she literally took a photo on her phone of her and Josh giddey and uploaded it with the caption “just fucked Josh giddey” and she submitted the photos to the media outlet.

[–] PooperJackson@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Actively ruining her life while simultaneously taking the moral high road preaching about justice for the victim.

Just another day on twitter.

[–] efernand1@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Any sites posting this haven't stopped for a second to think about it, all they care about is generating content. You dangle a carrot in front of them and they will bite without checking if its rotten.

[–] mrme3seeks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I watched the Robert Stone documentary a few years ago, in it there is a scene where he is bragging about how easy the media is to manipulate and he says something like “the media is either stupid or it’s evil” he was trying to imply that he could say anything and they would just report it without fact checking.

and as much as I hate the dude It sure seems like he is right.
