amy doctors wanna chime in on this?

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago

Chiropractors are not doctors.

These circus acts cause arterial dissections and worse.

[–] Nalivai@lemmy.world 27 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Those people started doing it becaus a ghost told a guy that the magical energy flows through the spine and every illness happens because the spine is misaligned and needs to be straighten. You don't need a doctor to tell you the merit of all that

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 2 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago)

And you can re align your energy if I tap you at random spots with a magnet. For $120 a week, forever.

(This person is not making this up. This is really, actually the foundation of chiropracty. Don’t go to or support chiropractors. They are not doctors.)

There are some ok ones that are just physical therapists that can order imaging. My mom was sent to one for her hip and he just gave her exercises to do.

[–] ayyy@sh.itjust.works 10 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Physical therapists have a medical degree. Chiropractors go to a 6 week scam cult training camp.

[–] Shayeta@feddit.org 2 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Calling yourself a Chiropractor gets you way more business than calling yourself a physical therapist - even if you are a physical therapist.

[–] SaveTheTuaHawk@lemmy.ca 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Maybe in the land of horse paste, but everywhere else physiotherapists are referred by doctors. No doctor would refer a chiropractor.

[–] Shayeta@feddit.org 1 points 2 days ago

You'd be surprised how many people don't know this and seek chiropractors directly instead of going to a doctor first.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 16 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Not a doctor but there’s no way that’s good.

[–] kolmaskommentoija@sopuli.xyz 12 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Also not a doctor, but I remember reading, that those practices have paralyzed people - and I can believe that. Definitely not good.

[–] ILikeBoobies@lemmy.ca 11 points 5 days ago

The neck stuff they do increases risk of stroke. The whole chiropractic practice isn't backed by medical research.

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 days ago

There's a good way of doing this and is by hand and applying uniform pressure to help people with contractures stretch.

None of that sudden intense pull where anything can go wrong.

[–] ryannathans@aussie.zone 7 points 5 days ago (1 children)

What do army doctors have to do with it

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 13 points 5 days ago (2 children)

He said Amy but she's out at the shops right now

[–] tyranny@crazypeople.online 3 points 5 days ago (2 children)

try a different pronoun, buster

[–] CalypsoGirl@lemmy.today 3 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Tyranny is a woman?! Makes sense 😝

[–] MrNesser@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago (1 children)

To be fair there's nothing in their profile to suggest it and this is the Internet where gender is about as important as an ice cube in Antarctica

[–] village604@adultswim.fan 2 points 4 days ago

One of the rules of the internet is that there are no women on the internet.

[–] Saber_is_dead@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

maybe they meant doctors named Amy?

[–] glasratz@feddit.org 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

It may cause strokes, but current chiropractic-funded studies say otherwise.

The ones that get strokes don't do as many post-treatment surveys
