Lots of people do that every year. Some out of choice, some because they have no choice.
On the other hand, I'm someone who has always been with family. There was only one year where I wasn't for the day itself and that's because I was on nights. It was a little hard to deal with, but I've had worse experiences.
Like, say, the first summer I had a full time job after decades of school and university and suddenly not getting that six-week break. It was like I couldn't breathe.
Or the existential horror of working nights and realising that there's no great reset from one day to the next. You might not even realise you think of time that way until you have to be awake at the "wrong" times. Time's continuous. No break. No fanfare when the weekday changes. Relentless unending time.
So yeah, that Christmas was kind of lonely, but I slept through most of it, and saw family a day or so later.
