Rules

  1. This is an English-language community. Comments should be in English. Posts can link to non-English news sources when providing a full-text translation in the post description. Automated translations are fine, as long as they don't overly distort the content.
  2. No links to misinformation or commercial advertising. When you post outdated/historic articles, add the year of publication to the post title. Infographics must include a source and a year of creation; if possible, also provide a link to the source.
  3. Be kind to each other, and argue in good faith. Don't post direct insults nor disrespectful and condescending comments. Don't troll nor incite hatred. Don't look for novel argumentation strategies at Wikipedia's List of fallacies.
  4. No bigotry, sexism, racism, antisemitism, islamophobia, dehumanization of minorities, or glorification of National Socialism. We follow German law; don't question the statehood of Israel.
  5. Be the signal, not the noise: Strive to post insightful comments. Add "/s" when you're being sarcastic (and don't use it to break rule no. 3).
  6. If you link to paywalled information, please provide also a link to a freely available archived version. Alternatively, try to find a different source.
  7. Light-hearted content, memes, and posts about your European everyday belong in other communities.
  8. Don't evade bans. If we notice ban evasion, that will result in a permanent ban for all the accounts we can associate with you.
  9. No posts linking to speculative reporting about ongoing events with unclear backgrounds. Please wait at least 12 hours. (E.g., do not post breathless reporting on an ongoing terror attack.)
  10. Always provide context with posts: Don't post uncontextualized images or videos, and don't start discussions without giving some context first.

(This list may get expanded as necessary.)

Posts that link to the following sources will be removed

Unless they're the only sources, please also avoid The Sun, Daily Mail, any "thinktank" type organization, and non-Lemmy social media (incl. Substack). Don't link to Twitter directly, instead use xcancel.com. For Reddit, use old:reddit:com

(Lists may get expanded as necessary.)

Ban lengths, etc.

We will use some leeway to decide whether to remove a comment.

If need be, there are also bans: 3 days for lighter offenses, 7 or 14 days for bigger offenses, and permanent bans for people who don't show any willingness to participate productively. If we think the ban reason is obvious, we may not specifically write to you.

If you want to protest a removal or ban, feel free to write privately to the admin that applied the rule (check modlog first to find who was it.)

So wait, is he being kicked out because Britain voted for Brexit or because of something he did? You’re not even keeping your story straight. In the meantime that they’ve been there for a long time it’s literally the reason that we can’t give land back to the Palestinians or Georgia back to the Cherokees, so as a Native American I’m very interested in why it’s OK now. Kind of seems like this is just yet another instance of the people in charge getting to make the rules no matter what the morality is.

What do you mean, "my story?" I'm not The Guardian! They're the ones claiming he's being kicked out because of Brexit while leaving out the reasons why Swedish immigration authorities ruled against him three times.

You literally called it a leopards eating faces situation and said that the UK was getting what they demanded.

The point is they ruled against him 3 times after he had been living there for over two decades.

If he didn't oppose Brexit.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

If brexit doesn’t have anything to do with it then why does that matter?

[–] grue@lemmy.world 2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Do you just lack reading comprehension skills or something? Why do you keep assuming random shit I didn't say?

Of fucking course Brexit has something to do with it; it's why he doesn't have an automatic right to live in Sweden indefinitely. But that is not the same as being the reason his non-automatic application to stay failed three times. Clear now?

I don’t know why you’re so desperate to keep changing the topic, I’m just trying to keep it on what I was originally saying and you’re not so I’m done.

The bottom line for me here is that he shouldn’t have been kicked out regardless, after 24 years no matter what he did he should’ve gone through the Swedish penal system or something like that. Or it’s totally OK to kick people out after they’ve lived there for most of all of their lives and we should stop using that excuse in the other places.

I am sick and tired of your ridiculous false accusations.

Here's what you actually wrote:

Sweden shouldn’t be allowed to do that, just like Trump shouldn’t be allowed to remove people who’ve been living in the US for 24 years.

I replied to the second half of that, the bullshit comparison between Sweden and Trump. You then posted a series of confused objections to things I didn't claim while insinuating bad faith on my part, but at no point were we ever talking about the thing you apparently think we were talking about!

Don't pretend "just like Trump" wasn't your topic.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -3 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

Wow, you went way out of your way to come up with a completely different understanding of what I said.

You were the only one who has tried to compare the method of removal, I’m still talking about the act of removing.

I’ll type it slower this time so you really get it: people shouldn’t be able to be removed from the places they’ve lived for most or all of their lives. Regardless of where that is or who’s removing them. It doesn’t matter what the reasons or method are it always results in pain and suffering.

Seriously, stop trying to act like you changing the subject is me changing the subject or me reiterating my point multiple different ways it somehow me not saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over again.

FYI, I never disagreed with you on the morality of it to begin with. In fact, that's why I didn't address that point: I had no objections to it.

Now, seriously, for the last fucking time, knock it off with your needlessly combative attitude! You're the only one here acting in bad faith!

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works -2 points 11 hours ago

You were the first one to use italics, I take strong issue with the idea that I was the first one to be needlessly combative.
